A year end round up of sorts. A brilliant book becomes a calling card for the author whose other works (sometimes less known) we seek out. We may end up doing a serial reading or add their books to our TBR.

Who are the authors whose works most impressed you in 2020 and why?

message 2: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nathan-93) | 554 comments 1. The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks.
Why? It is cathartic!

2. The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum.
Why ? I like disturbing/depressing novels.

Though I read many good books in 2020- I think the two authors I fell in love enough to get their lesser know books
1. Ali Smith
2. Hilary Mantel (esp after Beyond Black)

on safe bets this year
1. Raymond Chandler
2. Margaret Atwood

Rediscovered Victor Hugo as I finally read Les Mis.
Also Rainer Maria Rilke.

have you decided which one are going to read?

message 15: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nathan-93) | 554 comments @Em lost in books: I would suggest Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy if disturbing novel suit your fancy.

Or maybe James Rollins
I loved the standalones and Sigma Series.

Millennium continuations were not up to the mark although the millennium series itself had too many glaring loopholes!

This year I read 2 books of relatively new authors
1. As the Stars Fall by Steven Lee - truly brilliant. poignant love story that had
me in tears.
2. The Stepdaughter- Georgina Cross I believe its her debut novel and the simplicity of the crime and the pace really appealed to me. .
3. Wildflower Graves- Rita Herron - an extremely fast paced, fabulous mystery novel.
3. Blinking Lights- by Rosie Claverton. a most surprising Christmas gift part of my Advent Calendar read. Brilloint novella, 100pages of simple who dunnit.
4. A very Lucky Christmas By Lilac Mills. Funny and sad - caught me.by surprised.
