The twins were in high school and also actresses. Their mother had died a long time ago and their dad was a surgeon (either a plastic surgeon or ENT). They also had a guardian, who was the mother of a boy they went to school with and looked after them on set. The twins didn't like having a guardian because they wanted to spend more time with their dad. The boy used to hang around there too and him and the narrator twin ended up developing a crush. He was into stunts.
One twin (the one who wasn't the narrator) got cast in a movie that I only remember involved a horse. She ended up getting burned on the set and the narrator stepped in to film her scenes. There were other fires and accidents on set and she was trying to find out who was responsible.
There was also another child actress who had been involved in the film (maybe she originally had the part that the twins ended up playing?) and she was in one of the fires and was trying to sue the father of the twins because he had done surgery on her nose and she claimed she couldn't breathe in the fire.
In the end there was one last big fire and the narrator twin was trapped with the horse (I think in a float?) and in danger. I don't remember how she ended up getting out or who the bad guy was, but the book ended with them all attending the movie premiere and the boy getting the other child actress to drop her suit by pretending to get hit by her mother's car and threatening his own legal action.
The book was definitely part of a series because I remember footnotes referring to the other stores. I read it in the 90s, I got it second hand but I would guess it was written in the late 80s or 90s?
