Jordynn | 7 comments I read this around 1999-2000 in English class. The book was about a society of people who could not see their reflections and therefore did not know what they looked like. Vanity did not exist in this society.

Jordynn, what's the genre (which we need to add to the header/topic title) - e.g., for teens or adults, fantasy, science fiction, romance?

Can you describe the main character(s)?

message 3: by Jordynn (new)

Jordynn | 7 comments The genre may have been young adult and the main character was a kid.

I added some details to the header/topic title at the top of the page, so your book might be recognized from that description alone. Many members only read the headers.

You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Teenager or younger child?

Can you tell us more about the society? Was it a medieval fantasy type world?

message 6: by Jordynn (new)

Jordynn | 7 comments It was possibly a young boy. The time seemed fairly current—not medieval but not futuristic.

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments The Giver?

Mirrors are not forbidden, but they are rare in the society so people don't look at reflections of themselves often.

Jordynn | 7 comments This was a book my husband read in high school—I just read the plot of “the giver” to him and it sounded familiar but it wasn’t the same book as people who can’t see their reflections.

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments This was assigned reading in English class?

If so, it's gotta be a well known book. Kinda also reminds me of Anthem, but I don't know about them not being able to see their reflections.

Jordynn | 7 comments He hasn’t read Anthem...or at least doesn’t remember enough to catch the references in Antz. The English teacher who had his class read this book only taught at his school for one year. We can’t even ask his friends who are a year older or you get than him.

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments Maybe have him check the YA Dystopia Novels list. It should be a good resource. There are over 1400 books on it.
