M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments Hello, I just published the first two books of the "Trashy Romance" series. (It is the series name and it is in the main title. Also please note that these book titles do not have subtitles, even though there's a colon in the title).

Series Name: Trashy Romance
Book 1 Title: Trashy Romance: Curbside Pickup (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...)
Book 1 Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MYSN6TJ
Book 2 Title: Trashy Romance: Back-Alley Treasure Trove (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...)
Book 2 Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MY5HBX1

Thank you,
M.

do these books have characters in common?

Emily | 17656 comments Do the books have anything in common besides a theme? Like shared characters or a universe?

message 4: by M. (new) - added it

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments They are the same world with overlapping characters. Together, the books create a very large arc.

message 5: by M. (new) - added it

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments They're also chronologically ordered.

message 7: by M. (new) - added it

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments It appears that the titles of the books changed. "Trashy Romance: Curbside Pickup" changed to "Curbside Pickup"

The actual titles for both books start with "Trashy Romance: " as registered in the ISBN. Can you please change the titles back?

(please see original message on the thread, there I describe how the phrase 'Trashy Romance' is both in the title and is the series name and that there aren't any subtitles).

Both books in the series are showing this issue. Thank you for your help!

Mantvydas | 1092 comments Titles were changed to follow the Goodreads standards.
Instead of Trashy Romance: Curbside Pickup to Curbside Pickup (Trashy Romance, #1).

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments But then Goodreads isn't reflecting the actual book titles. I think Goodreads should reflect the actual book titles.

message 10: by M. (new) - added it

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments I'd like the titles to be in the following format:

Trashy Romance: Curbside Pickup (Trashy Romance, #1)
Trashy Romance: Back-Alley Treasure Trove (Trashy Romance, #2)

Scott | 9705 comments Rather redundant.

message 12: by M. (new) - added it

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments Yes, but accurate.

message 13: by Suzi (new)

Suzi | 8661 comments The title is formatted to Goodreads standard title/series naming conventions.

message 14: by M. (new) - added it

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments Can you post a link to the standard title/series naming conventions so I can read about this and learn more? From what I read here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... (which may not be the actual conventions standards) I didn't see anything saying that if words in the title match the name of the series, that those words should be removed from the title.

Thank you,
M.

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments Side note: on all the retailers I've published/listed these books to (Amazon, Kobo, B&N, Google Play, Apple Books, Smashwords, BookBub) the titles retain the words "Trashy Romance" and the series is titled "Trashy Romance." I'm pushing hard on this because I really think that the Goodreads pages should match all the others!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Goodreads is not a retailer and does not sell books. It is a cataloguer, similar to a library.

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments If the naming conventions is a public document, please post a link.

Emily | 17656 comments We go by Goodreads policy. As you can see, that particular thread (10 years old) is asking for suggestions for changes to a policy.

Here is the link. See especially the "subtitle" section. That is what applies here:
https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

We cannot change policy. Series information may be different across different platforms. Goodreads is not a sales platform like the others you mentioned, so they have their own cataloging standards.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Included in that section is:

Place the series information in parentheses after the title and any subtitle or transliteration.

M. Lorrox (mlorrox) | 26 comments @Emily, Thank you for the link. That's helpful. The issue I'm having is that Goodreads has changed my title. The entire titles as registered in the ISBN are "Trashy Romance: Curbside Pickup" and "Trashy Romance: Back-Alley Treasure Trove" those are the titles. I'm trying to get the Goodreads site to display the actual book titles in the titles display area. (note that there are no subtitles registered with these books. If you'd like screenshots from the registration pages where the subtitle field is left blank, let me know).

Please see how the titles of these books are registered in this image: (in case html doesn't work, link is https://i.imgur.com/j046MI2.png)

@Elizabeth (Alaska) Place the series information in parentheses after the title and any subtitle or transliteration. I'm happy that "Trashy Romance" is listed as the series after the title, but Goodreads is changing the title away from what it actually is. As Goodreads is a cataloguer, I think it's important that the site accurately portray these books' titles.

If there's a standard that says that book titles on Goodreads cannot also contain series names, please point me to that. If that were the case, I'd accept the change to the titles, albeit grumpily :)

Thank you
M.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Volunteer librarians will follow known policy and remove the series name in the title as you have listed it. You are free to contact staff via the Contact Us form.
