Sally and Natasha

A plague has past through Novel Kingdom, on the edge of Lake Lexicon. The heroes who were previously keeping the kingdom safe from monsters have been particularly badly hit and Queen Skye has put out a call for new heroes to come and maintain the safety of the kingdom.

In recognition of the fact that the kingdom is in a perilous state with all the new monsters, she is planning to pair experienced adventurers with the newcomers to help them find their way around the kingdom while they settle in.

How to take part
Post below saying whether you are a newcomer to the kingdom or an experienced hero. We will pair you up to complete the tasks together. Both of you will receive the same rewards from completions.

Tasks
1. Say hello in the buddy thread set up for you
2. Introduce yourself in the Tavern
3. Newcomer reaches level 2 experience
4. Newcomer levels up a weapon
5. Newcomer levels up both weapons
6. Newcomer defeats their first monster
7. Both partners spell out one of NOVEL, ROLE, PLAY, GAME using standard spell out rules
8. Visit the melting pot and suggest a quest idea that you have worked on together
9. The experienced player gives a gift to the newcomer to help with a quest (e.g. potion/egg/magic item)
10. Both partners read a book that involves a teacher or student, or that has a link to a video game (i.e. Ready Player One or The Last Wish)

Rewards
These are additive (i.e when you complete hard, in total you will have 23 XP, 10 gold and a major heal potion).

Tutorial: Complete 2 tasks for 2XP
Easy: Complete 4 tasks for 4XP
Intermediate: Complete 7 tasks for 7XP and 10 gold
Hard: Complete 10 tasks for 10 XP and a major heal potion

I did try and begin in 2015 - and have a thread - but got so overwhelmed trying to figure out how to get going I just walked away.

What should I do first?

My recommendation would be to start leveling up your staff or sword, whichever you choose to use. It'll help when killing monsters.

Also, find a quest or two that seem interesting to you. I like the pet quests (dog, horse, etc).

I’ve been a busy little bee and ticked off a few of the tasks

I’ll go an explore the quests 😀

We need to decide our spell out word - you pick which word we should spell out

And for task 10 do we need to read the same book do you think? Or each pick a book that fits the criteria? I’ll probably find one with a teacher or student.

And how are you for ideas? Will have to explore tasks and see what sort of things are happening already - you’ve been here a while - any thoughts?

Just thought of another question - in a quest (Academy II) it says

...Books used in these tasks are still available to be applied towards other quests. These are participation tasks...

Does this mean if I read a book that fits a task - I can use the same book for another quest?

Hi, for task 10 you don't both need to read the same book.

And yes, for participation tasks you can use the book for another quest.

Now, for task 8 we are to come up with a quest suggestion we have worked on together.

I’ve come up with a suggestion for us to work on - feel free to pull it apart and/or come up with another one for us to present.

Suddenly Downunder ( a simple quest)
You are so busy looking for monsters that you fail to see a glowing green and gold circle on the path in front of you. You step into it and after being buffeted and spun you arrive in drop bear country - Downunder Land.

There is another glowing green and gold circle beside you - but this one has a black cross over it to prevent entry.

To remove the cross you have to do the following

Earn +5 Experience for reading 5 books set in Australia.
Earn an additional +1 Experience if one of the 5 books is set in the state of Tasmania

I don't mind the circle (a portal), but I think I would prefer something else besides a black cross blocking your return. Perhaps a person from Australian mythology demanding you must read five books set in Australia before you can pass and go back home.

Australian Mythology. Hmmm - there is the Rainbow serpent which appears in many of the aboriginal Dreamtime stories of creation.

Do you think that would work?

So could change it to look like this (have added word portal as well - a grown up word that eluded me 😂😂):
