Quarantine Tuesday Reading Kaffeeklatsch: 11/03/2020

My co-workers brother-in-law had an accident so gruesome that it will cause me bad dreams.
With these two things combined. I dunno.
Theresa, I love this thread you have started. It cheers me up every week and I love seeing what all the members are doing.
With reading and the Poll Tally, I had a serious mid year lull and I apologize to my team who have been great..

Oh BnB! I feel for you and your co-worker's family! And bad dreams...I have them from something I read recently, a true event, that so disturbs me I cannot box it up and shove it away deep enough for it not to haunt my dreams.
So glad this thread has given such pleasure! Now, find something silly to read as distraction.

Hubby drove by village hall this morning and reported only about 10 cars in the parking lot. But our village manage sent an email blast on Friday to report that already 74% of village residents had cast their ballots, either through absentee voting, or early-in-person voting.
Weather indicates a high turnout ... about 60F high and cloudless, blue skies. I have yet to turn on the TV, though. But I've planned a very nice dinner and even bought an apple pie for our dessert. If nothing else, we'll be celebrating the end of political ads!
I'm shaking my head in wonder at the posts in the Next Door website (like a mini facebook for a specific neighborhood) from people in a panic about how / where to vote! The site has been flooded with information for months!

I have a blue bra! I am contemplating the pearls. I'm not sure how appropriate they are in a preschool with jeans and a t-shirt. But I might go all out!

I'll be happy for the end of political ads too, BC. I think I almost hate those more than I hate the actual election ... almost. I like the idea of wearing head-to-toe blue. I need to go buy some yarn a little later. I think I'll put on a blue uniform. :D
We keep getting Drumpf trains on our main freeway slowing down traffic. My husband's friend had a Biden flag on my truck. He was not driving around in predominantly Drumpf neighborhoods to cause a stir. He was just driving here and there to his normal places, like work, grocery store, etc. and his truck was vandalized. When he returned to his truck, he was beaten up by these Drumpf supporters. I have not heard the opposite of Biden supporters doing any of that to Drumpf supporters.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying very fervently!

I've got my first meetings for my first day at Amazon scheduled, I've received my new work laptop and security badges and have filled out all my paperwork... only 6 more days!!
Otherwise hubby and I have been painting and cleaning and getting our house ready for his parents visit next week. He wants us to look like "real adults" when they get here. I just giggled and shook my head and kept painting.

That's horrible, Jenni. Is he ok?

Yes, he's okay. Fortunately, they didn't hurt him too bad. they mostly bruised some ribs and gave him a black eye and told him to get out of their neighborhood.

I have had CBC streaming in the background with ongoing updates as I am online.
I never used to follow politics this close up until the past decade or so.

That's good. Although I suppose it's unlikely anyone will be caught.

Why is it ok to tell the children of the country that electing a person who blatantly lies is not a big deal. For me, this was not about politics, it was about a moral compass that our country seems to no longer have

Drowning my disappointment in Apple pie for breakfast ... and a good Starbucks Italian Roast.

... but yeah, I think I know how you feel. And the worst is these kind of things are contagious. Hateful, spiteful, narrowminded speach and actions seem to spread much easier than kindness, compassion, understanding, love.

And I have decided to wear pearl EVERY DAY until the outcome is confirmed. Who says you can't wear pearls with khaki's and a teeshirt?!

And I have decided to wear pearl EVERY DAY..."
I expect to see them Friday! I will get my daughters-(yes she has pearls, and I don't!🙄)

I'm still fixing things up and cleaning and enjoying my last few days of being unemployed.
I keep reminding myself that regardless of the outcome, at least we have our Governor. Inslee won by a landslide. My husband and I are both so, so thankful that we live here now and not where we used to live in FL.

And I have decided to wear pearl EVERY DAY..."
My husband set up a Zoom call last night with about 12 people of like mind. 2 of the women were wearing pearls.
I am angry with the country and also with all the pundits and pollsters who insisted this year was different and they were absolutely sure about their forecasts. I feel like Charlie Brown having the football pulled away over and over. Yes, there is still hope for Wisconsin and other states but it should never have been this close. So many people looked around and said, "Gee, I really want 4 more years of this"?! We will never get the pandemic under control without a clear mandate, except for those states like NY and California that are doing their own thing. My state has divided government and is doing nothing. My town and county thankfully are good.
I wish I could live long enough to see how history books will treat this period of American decline and when it will turn around.

I remember my mother cautioning me when I was a young teen - "A good reputation, once lost - can never be restored." I fear that has happened already to our country.

I'm trying to maintain the mindset that I've done what I can personally do, and to be patient. Like Charlette, my state results have all come up Blue, and I'm happy with Oregon's representation.
I'm also happy with our Measures- Oregon is now the first state to decriminalize small amounts of many hard drugs-with the fine being more similar to a traffic violation ($100 or a full certified health assessment), and is now funneling funds gained from Cannabis Tax to health, treatment and addiction recovery. Essentially paving the road of treating drugs as a health issue versus a criminal issue.

That is so horrible and anti-American... it's domestic terrorist and the opposite of what these people say they value. Makes me sick.
If you truly value the greatness of America, you value people's right to vote and support the political party they believe in even if you don't agree. Although, I am with @Joanne in that this is a moral issue at this point.
Sick with stress today, hanging on for the final results and mostly staying away from the news unless friends update me.
But, I have a meeting at 1 that is likely to last forever so there will be some reprieve :P

German TV covers the election widely. I am not feeling good today, have been staying at home and watching Gilmore Girls and only every few hours tuning in to the election coverage. People here still hope for the best.

I felt happy when I saw that Inslee had been reelected - I guess I'll always feel a tie to WA after living in Seattle for three years.
I'm watching from the UK and even from this distance I'm feeling tense, so I can't imagine what this waiting feels like for those of you who are actually there. Fingers crossed for you all!

The same in Wisconsin!

OH, From afar, I didn't always agree with her conservative viewpoint, but Thatcher was one strong female leader. AND she was principled and didn't resort to lies and subterfuge as the Orange man is doing. I admired her. I remember the scene in the movie, "They're MY islands. Get them back! Now, shall I play Mother? Cream? Sugar?" (Re: the Falklands).

Well said Johanne. If only, eh?

It is really nice to be able to come to this little corner and know you will find a friend.

you made me laugh Nikki-thank you!

This is of course a very small sample pool, but republicans should be concerned since these kids will be of age to vote next time.
And also, they have to actually vote which there is definitely a large portion of Black men and Latino men not voting.
If Biden loses this election I worry it hurts more for people who voted for the first time and still can't see it pay off in the results, but we'll see.
I would never NOT vote, but I get a little discouraged thinking about it and it makes me think "why bother."
I've seen people posting about small victories, a lot of historic shit happening outside of the Presidential election and that gives me hope.

This has floored me. How close it is... I just can't believe it.

LOL! re: Margaret Thatcher! Yeah, in Canada, the colours are flipped, too, but red (liberal) is a more centrist position. Orange, then green are left and left some more!

In my opinion, The Orange Man won in 2016 because of all the people who did NOT vote (because they didn't like Hillary), not because of the people who did vote.

If Biden can hold onto his current leads in Nevada and Arizona, he hits the 270 electoral college votes mark and is the next President. (Even without Pennsylvania)
Probably won't know for certain until LATE tonight or early tomorrow.
Hanging onto that cliff of hope by my fingertips.

-Colorado rejected anti-abortion measure
-First openly black gay man in congress
-First openly transgender women as a state senator
-Missouri elected a BLM Leader and Activist as a US House representative
Had a small freak out today (I may have googled how to move to Madrid), but largely STAYING POSITIVE, and STAYING PATIENT.

Thank you for this!! I love the small but large victories for progress!!! Starting to hope. Fingers crossed!
Many of us have been waiting 4 years for this day. A long time for a do over, wouldn't you say? I predict long lines at the polls even though over 3/4 of those who voted in 2016 have already voted. Astounding. Could be the largest turnout to vote in the history of the USA. It will be beautiful!
Another "election" ends today as well...Poll Tally Challenge. Jade Dragons vs. Readers of the Purple Sage. Which team is taking the win? What color will dominate? And which individual on which team will win the Presidency? Well, it will likely be a few days before final results are known. I have my preference (hint: I am a trifle green and thus biased).
I have a busy week, thankfully allowing me to filter the news.
