Tell us what's upcoming on your list!

For me - to finish on audio Under the Dome! Also I am really liking Serena.

I will also be reading The Rent Collector and Wintering.

Who knows? Maybe we'll find buddy read partners through this posting.

The Mars Room is on my TBR. Let me know what you think. My TBR is huge so I need an extra push to get to a book sometimes.

message 4: by Kerri (new)

Kerri | 5 comments I am making my way through books I added to my TBR in 2015, I only have 9 to go which I plan to read by the end of the year. I will start on these next Let Me Explain You, The Heretic's Daughter & A Remarkable Kindness

message 5: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 36 comments I'm currently listening to City of Dragons. There are a few of us buddying reading this series.

I'm also reading The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived The Holocaust. My sister gave it to me for Christmas in 2015. I guess it's time I read it.

A couple of other books planned for November are Simon the Fiddler and I Was Anastasia. It looks like November is history month for me.

message 6: by Ann (new)

Ann | 4 comments I'm reading The Bishop's Man by Linden MacIntyre.

It will be mostly nonfiction this month since I'm participating in Book Tube's and Goodread's Nonfiction November. I plan to read The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures by Anne Fadiman and The Little Ice Age: How Climate Made History 1300-1850 by Brian Fagan among other nonfiction books.

I haven't read Simon the Fiddler yet but I have read other Paulette Jiles novels: News of the World, Enemy Woman and The Color of Lightening. She is one of my favorite historical fiction writers.

Angela M I’m currently reading Stories from Suffragette City, a collection of stories to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. Some fantastic contemporary writers have contributed to the collection- Lisa Wingate, Paula McClain, Christina Baker Kline, Jamie Ford, Chris Bojhalian and others.

Canadian Jen I'm reading The Vanishing Half. So far, am enjoying it! I have another 8 library books I need to get through before they are due back!

Awesome Kerri - I am backed up to 2013 - would love to be at TBR 2015-added books! But there are hundreds though *sigh* but not entirely a terrible thing....

There were a few years that I had dropped my reading habit, so glad to be back in to it. I also wish I had kept book journals my whole life.

I also own a copy of The Heretic's Daughter - I like the cover. Let me know what you think of it!

The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures by Anne Fadiman was a great book. I remember reading it in my early 20s and it has always stuck with me. Very enlightening into another culture. I've also recently read The Late Homecomer and The Song Poet: A Memoir of My Father and have learned a lot.

News of the World was a real life book club read for our library group and everyone enjoyed it for the most part. Definitely a writer to watch.

On my TBR - and very exciting to wonder what your fingers will pick up next. As I tell my non-reading husband who doesn't know: The best part of finishing a book is picking up a new book.

Sounds great Raul - so Housekeeping is a must read? Martha also seconded it. Giving it a bump up the list. Thanks a lot you two!

And Raul - again, I must say, you have a very sophisticated and eclectic taste.

Gone With the Wind is a goal of mine - are you planning to/have you read [book:Scarlett
? I own a copy so figured I should read the original as well since I grew up loving the movie on TV. It was a big event in the household back in the day.

Victoria (RedsCat) (redscat) My list for this month is too long LOL! I'm currently reading: We Are Not Free, The Lost Apothecary, and The Ghost Tree.
But I also want to read about 15 other books this month and I don't read quite that fast (but I'm super excited about holidays this month to pack in a little more reading). Some of my reads on deck: The Book of Life, Angel of Greenwood, Malibu Rising, The Year of the Witching, Written in the Stars, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.

Nice to have a plan Victoria - and you are very ambitious to me and have some good titles. I wish you all the luck to squeeze more downtime into your hours to finding more reading time to get through all your books. I'm wondering if we will be making any long road trips this month so I have an excuse to just focus on my books. I can take in some scenery, but also make progress in my pages. No real guilt involved.

Chelsea | 2 comments I've just started Smacked: A Story of White-Collar Ambition, Addiction, and Tragedy on audiobook and am already a huge fan. It's so raw and honest.

I'm also working my way though several other books, including When We Left Cuba and Sisters in Law: How Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg Went to the Supreme Court and Changed the World.

Nice titles Chelsea! Are you normally a nonfiction reader? Although I love fiction best, there are just some well-written nonfiction books that I have just loved and are my very favorite books.

Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End
Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption
Shadow Divers

They are very different from school textbooks (which I have not needed for over 20 years, but still, that's how I previously viewed nonfiction books when I was younger).I assume the books have not just gotten better, it's my reading tastes. :)

message 31: by Cherie (last edited Nov 04, 2020 08:08PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) I am currently reading The Trials of Koli and Baker's Blues.

I am currently listening to The Sandman.

I have started The Gap of Time for a monthly challenge in another group.

I have started The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu: And Their Race to Save the World’s Most Precious Manuscripts and Murdering the President: Alexander Graham Bell and the Race to Save James Garfield - both non-fiction reads in another group.

I plan to start The Relentless Moon as soon as I finish the two books I listed as "currently reading" at the top.

Thanks for the recommendations Colleen! Just Mercy has been sitting in my to-read pile for about a year now.

I prefer non-fiction, historical, or autobiographies/biographies on audiobook for my "listen and learn" commute! But when I am at home, I will read just about anything.

message 33: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I read mostly mysteries & am trying to finish up a challenge for another group before the end of the year.
I'll complete (hopefully) within a week these 2 -
Sleeping Lady & The Con Man
I'll continue with The Visitation & start Library of Souls & Billy Straight
These are all for the same challenge. I allow myself to get distracted & then really have to hustle to finish by the end of the year. LOL

I always read several at once ... more of the ADD issue, I'm sure.

message 34: by Linda (new)

Linda | 30 comments Currently reading Julia Alvarez's "Afterlife" as well as Gaiman's "Anansi Boys"

message 35: by stephanie (new)

along with a few others.....

and looking forward to getting into B is for Burglar To Kill a Mockingbird To the Lighthouse and The Christmas Train

message 36: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn | 8 comments Stephanie I loved Big Little Lies! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Next up for me is The Women by T.C. Boyle.

message 37: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'm inordinately tickled to discover that there's a new Longmire mystery out AND the title starts with N! (I need N titles for a bunch of challenges.) Next to Last Stand (Walt Longmire, #16) by Craig Johnson

message 38: by Parker (new)

Parker | 11 comments Jennifer, yay! Another Longmire fan!

message 39: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I've only read The Cold Dish, but I bought all the Longmire books for my husband a few years ago. I plan to start the series again in 2021. I've watched the series twice on tv. We both loved it. Took me awhile to finish it after my husband died. He didn't get to watch the last couple of seasons. I love reading books I bought for him. I feel closer to him when I'm reading ones he loved.

message 42: by stephanie (new)

stephanie (disneygirl) loretta i am also a very spontaneous reader but chose a list of books i keep wanting to read and putv aside for library picks instead. I have a huge focus on getting through these books at home eventually. Its hard when there are so many new great releases!! (speaking of which I have 2 of Janet Evanavichs' new books due to come in soon as well)

message 43: by stephanie (new)

stephanie (disneygirl) Loretta #27 but I think seeing as this title does not have the number in it (Fortune and Glory) it will be her finale?! I know assumptions aren't good but I know there has been a lot of talk of many readers are in the same boat and tired of the man bouncing and everything needs to come to an end eventually....... I also LOVE grandma Mazur. So were you team Joe or Team Ranger? I have no shame in saying Team Joe :)

Along with the Stephanie Plum series though I have also been reading the Fox and O'Hare series by Evanovich which is now on book 7. Once I read these 2 I will be again caught up and have read literally everything Evanovich has written LOL

I just finished Serena which I thought was a good read, overall 4 stars, but just didn't love as much as The Cove.

Now on to The Rent Collector, which should be quick and continuing with Under the Dome which is not.

message 45: by Shilpa (new)

Shilpa | 1 comments I started on The girl with the louding voice now. Next one on the list is Long Bright River and Where the Lost wander.

message 46: by Cia (new)

Currently Listening to A Nearly Normal Family and planning to read Solutions and Other Problems during this week.

Saul Escalona | 5 comments Just finished Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. Weird material but interesting.
As for the rest of the year I intend to read; The One
by John Marrs, a thriller of DNA ; Hunger
by Knut Hamsun, a classic that influenced other writers and The Devil's Cup: A History of the World According to Coffee
by Stewart Lee Allen, origins and influence of coffee in the world.
You see my plans are modest.

message 49: by Linda (new)

Linda | 30 comments Halfway through "Afterlife" (which is small and should read fast, but my life lately....). I always feel, when reading any of her books except "In the Time of the Butterflies", that she can write about anything. Take one small thing and create a story around it.
1/4 way through "Anansi Boys"

message 50: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I finished 2 of my challenge books. Still reading The Visitation & it's really good so far. Have started Silence of the Hams, a fun cozy series & Billy Straight. Will start Library of Souls as soon as I finish one of those. Those 4 will complete that challenge.

I also just finished Second Sight, a time travel romance from the 70s.
