Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore's specialty is killers. Killers who have killed, killers who want to kill, killers who love talking about fictional kills, killers who might kill in the future but just need some talking time where Gwen mostly listens, doodling flowers on her note pad. Gwen thinks she is really good at her job, that she fills a niche in the world of psychiatry, but she's going to find out just how incompetent she really is at the important stuff.

i honestly was not expecting this to be so good. i havent read anything by AT before, but im pretty sure she was predominately a romance author, so i was intrigued to see how she would handle mystery/crime. and she does it well - its a good look for her.
this story is exactly my cup of tea. i would kill for a good crime fiction story, especially ones that deal with serial killers, so this ticked all the boxes for me. the characters are comp ...more
The story begins with the latest victim of the Bloody Heart killer coming home after escaping. We also meet Gwen Moore, a psychiatrist who specializes in killers. I have to say I really liked this character and she's the reason why my rating is rounded up instead or down. She often has to face moral dilemmas because of her work and that w ...more

Six teenagers have been murdered. They have been sexually assaulted and their sexual organs have been removed and discarded like trash. So it's shocking when the seventh victim returns to his home, hurt but alive, after weeks of his absence. He was able to escape and is pointing the finger at his high school teacher, Randall Thompson!

Unputdownable from the first page to the last.
The Bloody Heart Killer is reliable.
He kidnapped handsome, popular boys, held them prisoner for a month or two, and then strangled them, leaving mutilated naked bodies with a heart carved into their chest.
Six teens murdered.
And, then the seventh escapes., and identifies his captor...a teacher from his high school, Randall Thompson.

I’m still missing her Deanne Madden character from Girl in 6E! I’m crossing my fingers and wishing she can decide to write a new book of hers in near future!
And let’s talk about this book: the story starts with a young 17 years old Scott Harden’s escape from his cap ...more
Gwen is a psychiatrist that just happens to have an unusual clientele. She specializes in some whacko's. She treats the guy that wants to murder his wife and people like the snobby Karen who wants to stab her one-upping sister in law.
Little Miss Gwen had a one night stand though. With one of the murdered teenage boys daddy. Who happens to be a high powered criminal defense att ...more
This author is now a favorite! This one kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending blew me away! I was not on the right track at all. It’s so fun when an author does that.
For characters in this one we have Gwen – a psychiatrist who treats people with violent tendencies. There’s also attorney Robert, still suffering grief from losing his son. We know that both Gwen and Robert are hiding things from each other and from us.
And we can’t forget about the Bloody Heart Ki ...more
This one has teeth.
The Good Lie demonstrates exactly why A.R. Torre strikes a match and sets fire to every storyline she's ever written. And this one bites back with its creative and harrowing jaunt into those dark creepy places and hangin' webs tucked inside the mind of the Bloody Heart Killer.
We find ourselves in upscale L.A. where six high school seniors have been brutally murdered. Most of them come from well-to-do families and the majority of them were athletes. I'll hand o ...more
If I had to use just one word to describe A.R. Torre that would be versatile. So far I've only read three of her books, and all three have been completely different but equally engaging.
The Bloody Heart Killer has been terrorizing the city of L.A. for months, having already killed six young men. Dr. Gwen Moore is a renowned psychiatrist who specializes in treating people with violent tendencies. Robert Kavin is an attorney grieving the ...more
1–2 stars, with the potential for more. Get ready, folks! This is gonna be a long review.
I feel weird about The Good Lie. It wasn’t horrible. The prose was actually quite readable and flowed quickly. But certain parts left a terrible taste in my mouth, and these moments completely ruined the rest of my (fairly decent) reading experience.
At the end of the day, this book and I just didn’t alc ...more
So when the television wasn’t available, what better reading option could I possibly find than a book about a serial killer?
The story here is about the “Bloody Heart” murders – six Abercrombie-style teenage boys who were taken captive, tortured, and left mutilated for the authorities to find. It’s also about the one that got away. And the dad of one of the victim ...more
“Could this be a copycat killer? A hoax? Or a weak moment in strategy and execution?”
I ADORE this author’s writing. THE GOOD LIE is about a psychiatrist (she specializes in treating killers) who makes it her mission to unmask the notorious “Bloody Heart Killer” who targets teenaged boys. I was deeply immersed in this story and I was never in a rush to get to the ending, mainly because of the main character who was so unique and well-cracfted; she definitely made a big impression on me ...more

Within minutes of starting, I was gripped. I was also slightly confused, as immediately it becomes clear that there are several threads that are woven together here, and it was hard to figure out who was who and how everything connected. The Good Lie is suspenseful and spine-chilling, and a perfect epitome of what a mystery-thriller ought to be. It keeps the reader at the edge of their seat, giving little away from the brilliant mystery that builds up piece by piece, and unveils it in the end, through an intelligent plot and writing by A.R. Torre.
For me, as a reader, a perfect mystery-thriller must have the following aspects: early foreshadowing that doesn’t give away any secrets, unpredictability, comple ...more

Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist who specialises in treating people with wild killer-type fantasies. When one of her patients kills himself after “living” his fantasy, she sort of blames herself for not treating him or seeing the condition better.
