I hope every one was able to enjoy the extra hour of sleep last night. I certainly did.

At the beginning of this madcap November I am reading Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh Solutions and Other Problems and Saints for All Occasions by J. Courtney Sullivan Saints for All Occasions and I'm listening to Hoax Donald Trump, Fox News, and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth by Brian Stelter Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News, and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth and the last track of Confederates in the Attic Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War by Tony Horwitz Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War.

I'm trying to "clean up" lots of unfinished books before the end of the year.

Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments I spent the “extra” hour READING. LOL. Richard Ford’s “Let Me Be Frank with You”. Never read his other books, and this was totally unlike anything I’d usually read. Don’t even know why it leapt from the library shelf into my arms. I liked it, the writing especially-irreverent and witty yet at the same time full of introspection, self effacing rumination about aging, past life and relationships. All the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on the Jersey Shore, told thru his main character Frank Bascombe, now retired, somewhat uncomfortably, from the real estate biz.

It is a challenge that involves reading, and posting the reviews, of thirteen books by Canadians or about Canada and runs from July 1st of one year to June 30th of the next. Not sure if this is allowed but here is a link to the starting/sign up page.

Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments I finished “White Fragility” and learned a few things about my own reactions and privilege in the matters of race and social/economic justice. And then I read Eric’s takedown of the author’s assumptions! Wow. Seems like I missed a few things . . Now onto Charles Baxter’s “There’s Something I Need You to Do”. I may not make my challenge goal this year. How about you??
