SOLVED. Children's book - Boy tries to feed the hungry. Crams a ton of food from his family's refrigerator into a truck. [s]

I'm looking for a children's book that was likely published around 1990. In it, a young boy learns that many people in the world are hungry and in need of food, so he decides to try and feed them. From here's it's somewhat of a misadventure. He takes all the delectable food that he enjoys eating out of his family's refrigerator/pantry, and crams it all into a big truck(?) to donate. The food of course turns into a gooey mess.

I can't remember the ending. But I do remember some great illustrations of him eating popovers and also pictures of the goo leaking out of his truck. I think the point of the book was to encourage kids to be generous even when they'd prefer to be gluttonous. :)
