I have not. Prior to my reversion to the faith I really wasn't all that interested, and I frankly thought a lot of the attacks on the Church (not just Pius XII) were wrong-headed. However corrupt a human institution I may have thought it to be, and however evil individual members of it might be, I also felt you could not deny the strong community it created and the phenomenal good works it has sponsored over the ages. And since my reversion, I have not been interested in reading calumnies against the Church by those who hate her.

Mariangel | 724 comments I have not either.

Looking in Wikipedia under Pius XII, there is a section talking about both books (Hitler’s Pope and Dalin’s response), which outlines the main arguments of the book we are reading and the praise for it.

However, regarding the controversy of Jewish children separated from their families (from Chapter 5), Wikipedia only talks about the attacking article in the Corriere della sera and the French document, but mentions none of Dalin’s information about the existing original document which says the opposite of what the French translation claims.

Fergus, Weaver of Autistic Webs | 136 comments My own thought is that all these anti-Catholic rants are engendered by permissiveness - folks simply opposing self-discipline and devotion as an obstacle to having fun - and so, no, I have never read them, nor have wished to do so.

I haven't read any of those books, but my son had and read Cornwell's book and gave it zero stars (!), therefore I wasn't interested in reading it.

Fonch | 2464 comments In my case It was not necessary the Press gave excesive information of these books and i had not intention to Read It. The Da Vinci Code i Read It to prove the quantity of líes to the Catholic Users of Goodreads besides i also Read because i am fed Up that my Friends said to me that i Read It. They thought that i Read i would change my opinion and It was worst that i have expected. Column of Fire i Read to reply to Ken Follet for his struggles against the catholics and Spain as the critic of Dante would say in This novel Mr. Follet invented the history as he wanted to do It. Coming back to the books Who struck to Pious XII It is curious that there was expriests, leftist and liberal catholics my father said to me that i have never trusted in exseminarist a man Who Can betray God can betray everything.

Fergus, Weaver of Autistic Webs | 136 comments Thank you so much, Fonch! It’s wonderful to hear a young man like you speak out so passionately against such ignorant rants. It gives me new hope!

Fonch | 2464 comments Unfortunatelly Fergus i am very pesimistic i am One of the few exceptions of my country. The majority of the Young people believe in These lies It is not only the left wing. We are a long time following antichristian ideologies today has written my beloved Juan Manuel de Prada following other Interesting writer Donoso Cortes Marquis of Valdegamas He said where the tyranny rules the religiousity disappears. I have written a very long review of The Mith of Hitler's Pope if you want you can Read It. The First part is proving that the Jews did not kill to Jesús Christ and his view in the literature for some Catholic Writers, however i have defended the canonization of G.K. Chesterton and Queen Elizabeth and the second part It is the review of the book.

Michael Perkins Brand new documentary on Pope Pius XII, with some interesting background on his predecessor, Pope Pius XI. Catholic scholars and clergy interviewed throughout. Very well done.

About It is said by Mr. Michael i want to remind the reading in this club of the Henry Morton Robinson`s novel "The Cardinal" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... i recomend his reading and watching the adaptation was directed by Otto Premminger with Tom Tryon playing to the main character Stephen Fermoyle. The Henry Morton Robinson`s novel it was about the relationship of Pius XI and the fascism and the movie touched the situation of the Catholic in Austria with Hitler one of the subplots and i would like to recomend this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... although unfortunatelly it was not translated to English.

The title of the documentary suggests they take a pretty standard critical position. Do they? Do they go into any of the information offered by Rabbi Dalin?

Fonch, the movie included a substantial subplot regarding Nazis in Austria, none of which was in the book, at least not the version my wife and I read. The Cardinal was our BOTM in 2017. I wish the movie had been more faithful to the book.

Fonch | 2464 comments Yes i said It but i liked really much The movie because This is an evidence that the told by Carroll, Cornwell, Goldhagen and others is absolutely false and for This reason thanks Preminger. Besides there was other subplot of the movie that it does not appear in the movie the topic of the black priest and the position of the Catholic Church about the racism in my opinion the movie made a Big favor to the Catholic Church, besides Preminger has an especial assistance the emeritus pope Benedict XVI. I like the book and the movie and i would say more the movie than the book but i must admit that It is my personal opinion and It Will not be shared for everybody.
