It feels wrong to vote with no limit. {Looks around nervously}
Should there be a limit, even if it's very high like 20 or 25?
What does it do to the results when voters can spread votes broadly, are there pros / cons?
What if there were bad players who voted for every book then hit Submit?
"I'm just asking questions for my constituents"
🧐😅

I went back and added a vote for Jade City so your advocating had some real-world effect. :-)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Everyone voting is not going to vote for everything, so a top six will always emerge 😊 The point is to find the ones most people would read, so it’s absolutely fine to vote for every single one if you’d be happy to read any of them 😄

Looking at the votes, many only vote for a couple of books. I suspect they’re the ones who’ve been around long enough to have read most of the ones they want to read.

message 55: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6111 comments I just vote for the ones in my TBR pile

message 56: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments It means nothing this early, but I have to share what the top six looks like right now :D

9 Wild Seed (320 pgs)
8 Dawn (248 pgs)
7 Jade City (498 pgs)
7 The Ocean at the End of the Lane (178 pgs)
7 Parable of the Sower (345 pgs)
6 Kindred (264 pgs)

That's four Butlers!

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
That'd be the most depressing 3 months lol

message 58: by HeyT (new)

HeyT | 504 comments If we're whittling down the Butler my vote is to keep wild seed as I've read the rest.

message 59: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments LOL! I've read all 6. I'm not voting this time since I didn't manage to read the last months' choices

message 60: by Jessica (last edited Jan 26, 2021 11:08AM) (new)

Jessica (jessica_peter) Ah, I missed there's a new vote! Good, I'm about to vote then. I'm only voting for 1 on the top 6 (Jade City) - I've read a lot of Octavia Butler's work already. I'm missing some, but they're not "books I intend to read soon" so I'm following the script ;)

message 61: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessica_peter) Bonnie wrote:

Then their entire voting roster would basically be a null vote, as it wouldn't change anything!

message 62: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessica_peter) Looks like I pushed The Calculating Stars and Rivers of London into a tie for 6th. Go, these books!

message 63: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6111 comments I voted for this one as it's in my TBR pile: The Calculating Stars

message 64: by Bobby (new)

Bobby | 869 comments I always like when people advocate for the books they want because you know you'll likely have people to read with. Also, sometimes I just skip over something and I'll go back and vote for it when it is brought to my attention.

message 65: by Banshee (new)

Banshee (bansheethecat) | 200 comments I'm so happy to see Octavia Butler at the top. It's one of these authors that I keep wanting to read, but shiny new books keep distracting me. I hope for Parable of the Sower to be in the top 6 by the end of the voting, because I own a physical copy, but I'll participate in any buddy read of this author.

message 66: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I rooting for Parable as well! I’ve read the others that are at the top...

message 67: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stefaniajoy) | 272 comments I've read Dawn, but was hoping to read more Butler soon. I voted for Parable, too :)

I can be persuaded to read Jade City :) -adds a vote-

Ocean at the End of the Lane is also on my TBR for this year.

thanks Stephanie and Bonnie!

Jade City's last book is coming out this year (CMIIW) and there will be an adaptation too so I'd like to give the series another try ^_^

That's why I decided to start with the shorter one. I hope I can squeeze "Sixteen Ways to Defend the Walled City" before the end of the month.

both The Calculating Stars and The Ocean at the End of the Lane are part of the bookshelf books, so you could knock off two of them and there are discussion threads for both.

Bonnie | 1279 comments Two hundred years ago we wouldn't even know how to read, much less be able to afford multiple books. We would be tenants living in a hut and working on a farm. These are first-world (air-quote) "problems" and we are pathetic, no doubt about it!!!!!!
