I read this book last year i,e. 2019 This book starts with a girl who is studying to be a nurse or is a nurse (i don't remember exactly) and she is in a relationship with a doctor who is away from her since he is serving the injured at war. This girl feels neglected and decides to go along with her friend/ cousin to Paris. When she goes there they meet two men- one of them is unusually quiet / shy and I think his name was Henry. One thing I distinctly remember is that Henry lost his pinky finger. Anyway, they sleep together. She returns back from Paris and later she realizes that she is pregnant with "Henry's" baby.

Fast forward a bit, she finds him and they get married. This Henry also owns a factory. There is an epidemic that broke out in the area/ town and they help set up a clinic where she is helping because she is a nurse. She meets the doctor here again. Moving ahead, towards the end- the factory is set aflame by Henry and he moves away with his lover and 2 kids who are mixed race. Henry also leaves a skeleton without the pinky finger in the factory as a fake evidence that he is dead. This pinky finger bone is kept in a box at his house with a good amount of cash which the girl finds later on. THE END.
