She cannot tell anyone she is a mermaid but she does and her powers go away, grandma gives her her powers back by giving up her own. Girl now still has her mermaid powers and boy, I believe there was a book too that she could only read while playing her flute, grandma could sing and hypnotize men. I know it’s a silly book but I liked it a lot thank you for your help
