If you’ve read the Scarlet Falls series, you may have noticed the author’s pattern of beginning her books with a prologue that details the crime from the victim’s point of view. What about that works/doesn’t work?

I like this writing technique. For me, it set the tone of the story, and gets me right in the middle of the mystery.

Same for me! I like being grabbed into a story immediately and using the crime scene to gather salient clues that might be helpful later on. I have come back to the prologue in every book!

It definitely evoked my sympathy for Tessa, and as you say, Jonetta, it helps in tracking clues.

I like getting the victim's point-of-view. It pulls me right into the story.

I have also been glad for this prologue. It certainly builds sympathy for the victim right away.
