I'm currently on chapter 11, I love how this book is moreso a female community build. It doesn't seem to be a book that is gonna focus on romantic relationships but more platonic ones and I love that

Seriously the level of trauma she was experiencing was heartbreaking. She could never catch a break. But I also feel like this book is opening a good dialogue in terms of blindly following religion in a way that does not allow room for a gray area

Britta and Deka's friendship is literally so beautiful. It makes my heart full to have a story where friendship is pushed to the forefront

Finished (view spoiler)[ It was just as good the second time around! I love how Deka was always made to free the goddesses and she had to go on her own journey to discover this. I’m also super glad her and Keita are still a thing and that they lived. There was no romance forced in this book, it was female love, friendship, and family with just the tiniest bit of slight romance. (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book on Friday, but my comment was never posted. However, I agree. I love that the strong bond of having female friendships is so important, especially when you are a young girl trying to navigate a world that has been stacked against you. We don't have enough books like this, so it was so refreshing that even with Deka being romantically involved with Keita, it wasn't the driving point of the plot.

That would make sense with what we know so far about Deka's powers and how different she is from everyone else. Her father seemed so initially kind as he endured being outcast by his family and society because of his love for his wife and daughter yet did not hesitate to strike her down when the village though her a demon! I'm curious about what exactly she is and what her abilities are, apart from healing and being immortal.

Ionas and Elder Durkas aren't much better than Deka's father and it feels like it is the men of this world who are the demons, not young girls like Deka. (hide spoiler)]

I feel sorry for the girls and how they are being treated. The others arrived in far worse states than Deka did and I hate to think about how they were forced to obey the men who travelled with them. White Hands seems like a saviour in comparison and so I'm eager to learn more about her.

I was happy to see them become bloodsisters as prior to that there was only an uneasy alliance formed. I feel a close friendship will be needed to survive this place. (hide spoiler)]

I really like their friendship dynamics too. White Hands singled them out as champions of the school and we got to learn more about their pasts. Gezal's family drowned her repeatedly but she could not die and that was probably the most horrifying reveal but all have had their share of pain in the past. I hope it allows them to be kind and understanding of Deka and her abilities.
