YA Fantasy Mystery(?) about two teens on bikes stuck in a time loop

When I was in middle school (2004 - 2007), my teachers often had us grab some sort of small books about reading, writing, spelling and grammar.

Somewhere in the book was a segment of a story about two teens on bikes trying to get home after school I believe. They decided to cut through a neighborhood, despite knowing it was dangerous because you can get stuck in a time loop there if you're not out by a certain time. (Sundown, I believe).

They stop and ask an old woman on her porch for directions and she tells them where to go, then the story ends with her calling them idiots and saying they've been repeating the same task for 20(?) years. Apparently oblivious of their predicament.

I've always wanted to know more of the story or the world its set in. I don't know if that's the extent of the story or if it was from a book or something else. But it has been on my mind for years and I'd like to read it again, even if there's nothing more to the story than that small section.

It was maybe a few paragraphs worth of reading, a page or two worth of text. I guess fantasy would seem more likely. Since there wasn't anything science related. Just 2 kids on bikes in a suburban neighborhood, who get stuck in a time loop without realizing it.
