If anyone can contact the man himself; Can't we have a little group discussion w/Him???? My personal dream is to bump into him somewhere and just say "WoW, I'm a Big Fan, could I get your autograph?"
Let's invite him to "Goodreads"

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Always, for quite a few years I've had an email correspondence with Steve. I'd run into him at a sci-ficom. in either Portland or Seattle (I can't remember which) -- and had, of course hung around to "bump into him" - As it happens, we shared a huge amount of "Have you reads....?" It eventually developed into an online correspondence - every few months or so.

As it happens, after I joined GR a little while ago, I was so impressed with the quality and knowledge of most of the comments that I mentioned it to Steve. The problem is, as I'm sure you aware, the man simply has NO TIME. What little he has to himself he treasures, (that's why no Facebook or anything like it) He loves his Constant Readers, but we have become such a large number of people all over the world that he says it does feel sometimes like people are always asking for a small piece of him. That's one of the reasons he announced his "retirement" several years ago. Fortunately, he's just too much the writer to just stop, and we are lucky enough to get the results!

It's not snobbery, or anything like that... Uncle Stevie just needs some ALONE time -- (but I will tell you not to be surprised if one of his characters logs on suddenly... never to be heard from again.... His favorite "name" for these quick comments is Gage Creed.

There is a group on here dedicated to get authors to join goodreads. That might help. I can see that he wouldn't want to be on here chit-chatting about himself. It's probably boring to him.

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Bondama, I always want to know if Stephen King read 'Let the Right One In.' Do you know if he did and what does he think of that book?

I bet he loved it. I did. :)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Patrick -- Becky's quite right -- He did love it!!

SK goes out of his way to find not only America's best, but the world's.

In No Way Shape Or Form, did I ever think the man was a Snob... Far from it... But it just seemed 2 me that we are in a kinda SK rut & I'll be Honest..... My dream is to meet the Man Himself 1 day, if only for a moment long enough to say; "I love your Books, Misery's my favorite. Could You Sign It....Or Thank You for Everything.... Yadda, yadda, yadda.... :)
I have Misery's 1st edition "paperback" because I just like paperbacks now.
I dreamed about Him all night a few nights ago for the 1st time ever & in a way, I guess I miss seeing his cameo's in the "movie versions" or the cool "Amex" commercial he did, years back.
I just miss seeing him..... But a Live Appearance wouldn't be so bad ether :)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Rob wrote: "Maybe saying Misery is your favorite wouldn't be the best choice. Wouldn't want to give him any "cockadoodie" ideas. ;)"

Heh.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL.... I agree.. but it is... That's why I would say something like "I Love Your Books" not "I'm Your #1 Fan." LOL...... I'm Not Totally Nutz.... Or am I??? LOL

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmm... is your name the answer to the riddle? O_o Hahaha!

message 11: by Dung Beetle (new)

Dung Beetle (dungbeetle) | 79 comments I’m not sure I want to meet Him. I’d know that life would be all downhill after that shining moment…plus, what would I say? Something stupid, I’m sure.

I know what you mean, Dung B - for two hours, and all the night before I managed to "bump into him" I labored over exactly what I'd say... when the "Shining Moment" finally came, I did manage to stutter out the right thing, which turned out to be, "Have you ever read...?"

message 13: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) Who knows, maybe he's on here under another name so he can get some honest feed back. It could happen.

Will you marry me?

message 16: by Patrick (new)

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Gimme money! Buy my book and give me a blurb something along the line of: 'Never since 'The Road' have I read work of such importance!' or 'This Blithedale horror scares me so bad that I literally crapped in my pants and my entire family got fed up with me and moved me into a nursing home!'

A guy can dream, can he?

message 17: by Patrick (new)

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Lori wrote: " Who knows, maybe he's on here under another name so he can get some honest feed back. It could happen."

That would be really cool but he only have to check the New York best seller list for that.

message 18: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Patrick, you give The Road too much credit, I think. It was good, but not THAT good.

He should just say "Never have I read a work of such importance!" ;)

message 19: by Patrick (new)

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Thanks! It's great when I win over a reader like yourself!

message 20: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Well, I haven't read it yet... (But soon!) I just don't think The Road deserves such massive praise.

message 21: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Just wait, Becky, there's something about "The Road" that reaches in, grabs your heart and marks you.. I really think you'll like it.

message 22: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh, no. I've read The Road. I haven't read Patrick's book yet.

message 23: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I just want to mention that I did give The Road 4 stars when I read it. I identified with the man and his son, and I love post-apocalyptic fiction, but the more I think back on the writing style (which I referred to in my review as "snapshots") the more I dislike it.

It's one thing to be "in the moment" and enjoy something while you're reading it, but in my opinion, if it doesn't hold up in memory, its not that great.

*shrug*

King isn't out of the pop culture loop. I am sure he knows about Goodreads and has peaked in and checked it out!

Hey, I don't know if anybody cares. But I finally saw a movie this weekend [thanx 2 netflix:] That was So much reminiscent of S.K.'s novel Firestarter... I just thought it was so cool,[for lack of a better word:]that he's really influenced most of the coming up generation.....
If anybody knows the Title... They win a 'Know it all about S.K. :) from me........ LOL

Anyone out there Who knows how to contact him, I say lets invite him....... but don't feel bad that he doesn't have time; the guy does seem so busy

message 34: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) Whats the worst thing that could happen? He says sorry to busy right now! How cool would it be if he did take a little time to visit us?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

WE CAN DREAM, CAN'T WE :)

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

But, how could we try to invite him?
Like.. Does he have an e-mail or something?
It waould have to be really convincent. We'd have to find a way that would attract him, so he'd come.
I so want to talk to him.

And yeah Always, WE CAND DREAM! *.*

message 37: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Wesley, I wish I could be more encouraging, but Steve has a life long policy of NOT engaging by email, except with friends. If you ever do get lucky, you are sworn not to give his email address to anyone else. But... you might try contacting him through his web page -- As you say, we can dream.. Right now he's in the final stages of firming up the release of "Under the Dome" so it may not be a good time. I did tell him about our group, but in his answer, he never gave any indication about "dropping in"

message 38: by Patrick (new)

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Just as well. I am sure he probably heard of at least a million constant readers' groups with their own digital shrines to him.

message 39: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Boo (betsyboo) | 195 comments I love this discussion...I too would love for "the man himself" to drop in and give us the gift of a few words. But like Bondama says, the man must treasure his time to himself...not just with writing, but with children and grandchildren, not to mention the fact that he obviously has a terrific marriage. I used to write him the occasional fan letter. Right around when INSOMNIA came out I got a mass-produced reply. He said he VERY much appreciated the fact that I love his work and he wished he could send me a personal letter, but he gets so much fan mail that if he replied to every one of them he wouldn't have time to write the stories. That completely placated me, because if I had to choose between getting a personal letter from him or a published novel, I'd have to go with the book. Of course, if he ever dropped in here and read any of these comments I'd want him to know that he has an open invitation to hang out with me, but in the end, for me, it's all about the story! Can't wait for UNDER THE DOME!!!

One more thing...I do have sympathy for him about the "everyone seems to want a piece of me". He may be richer than God, but he is after all a regular guy who wants a regular life. He just happens to be talented and loves what he does and it's a shame that some people just don't get that.

message 40: by Patrick (last edited Oct 11, 2009 07:09PM) (new)

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Maybe he can do something like a letter lottery in which he pick out a letter from millions of letters and then sit down and answer that one.

I go onto the message board on his website a lot. You may be able to leave a message there for him to read. He would more likely read that then the threads here at GR. The moderator on that website (she is called Ms. Mod) always answers people. She says he does stop there every now and then.

Here is one way to try to get a question or comment to Mr. King, he will be appearing for Times Talk Live and you can submit a question over the internet here:
http://www.nytimes.whsites.net/talk/s...

Depending on what state you are in, you can even go to the theater and watch the interview. My state isn't on there BOO!

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm so sorry Angie... I feel so bad for you too :(
