SOLVED. YA/Middle reader book, last 10-15 years, author's initials M.M. (I keep thinking the last name is Malloy). About a tween/young teen girl. Title something like The Alchemist.

Sorry I don't have more details. I believe there are two or three books about this girl. The Alchemist is not quite right I think, but might be close. I think I remember a bird on one of the book covers.

I am fairly sure these were pretty popular. I am just blanking on the author's name. Any help would be appreciated.
