Not sure- for some reason I thought it was by Fannie Flagg, but maybe I just read Fried Green Tomatoes around that same time.
This is driving me crazy. I'm so sure I've seen it before.Do you think it was set in the South, like Fannie Flagg's books?
Did the book look new at the time you read it?
Hey there! Thanks so much, it is driving me nuts also! Yes, it seemed to be set in the south. I remember them having a church picnic or outdoor event of some kind. I also remember the lover was a jerk, and picked on his son that she married, thought he was weak.
I knew this rang a bell! Could it be the same book Rae is searching for here?

I had suggested The Girl from Charnelle in that thread.
No, not pure. The main character has an affair with a man as a 16 year old. Man has kids her age. She gets pregnant, man writes her off and in spite she marries his son and raises the baby as the son’s child. Son has no idea that the child is actually his brother.

Do you think it was more literary fiction or mass market romance genre?
This sounds super familiar to me. I'm like 99% certain it's come up before.
