Ains | 4 comments I read this book over the summer of 2020. At an international school, Marisa plans a protest. Each year the school does a lock-in night with lots of games and stuff. She and her friends (one of their names is Joy) chain themselves to all the doors so no one can leave. She has a list of demands that includes eliminating single-use plastic at the school and stopping a construction project on an island that's killing the reef. She's an avid scuba diver who is in part mad because she hasn't seen unspoiled reefs. One of her biggest supporters during the lock-in is an athlete who I think is named Amira, they end up falling in love. There's a guy who's name starts with "P" who was supposed to throw the secret party during lock-in night, he ends up doing it with clear earbuds and alcohol in the water fountains. They're both part of a group that calls themselves Marisa's Protectors. In the end, someone tries to injure themselves so Marisa will open the door, but they hit her instead and her leg breaks really bad, but she still won't open the door. When someone starts breaking the glass on the roof to get out (he also got the water turned off and the electric too), he ends up dangling and lots of people have to go through a lot to save him, including Amira who climbs the building to help him. Marisa then lets everyone out but she gets a lot of her demands before she does. Thank you to anyone who knows this book!
