Abbie Against the Storm: The True Story of a Young Heroine and a Lighthouse by Marcia K. Vaughan? The Amazon preview mentions a sister named Mahala.
Yes!! This was the only book ever read to me that had my name in it! I remember our teacher reading it in class in 3rd grade and butchering the name 😅
