Seeking Mr. Right (but will settle for Mr. Right Now)
Debra wrote: "I think I MIGHT be able to squeeze in a 3rd book. Would like to do the couples one in honor and Johnny Depp and me. That's too funny, and a long story. lol, too funny!
Janice wrote: "Have you seen Mordtecai yet, Debra. I really enjoyed it. Johnny is such a great actor, and he pulled those eccentric role off perfectly. ."Just put it on my Netflix queue. Thanks for the tip!
I can switch books without messing things up, right? I am realizing that if I read Prince Lestat right now it screws up this segment of the year-long, but there are plenty of other things I can read instead that will help instead. I will look at what might work and what categories the books fit and you guys can see if there is any reason to prioritize one (if it lets someone else make a switch if they want or something).
I think I want to substitute Scarpetta. It would count for job I don't want my date to have, shooting, Bonnie and Clyde or Scooby and Shaggy
I got home from work about an hour ago, and am getting my books ready. My current possibles are listed here, except for Shoes and Space - they're downloaded but I'm too lazy to go check what they are. Shoes -
Africa - Things Fall Apart Running the Rift
South America - Perla
Canada - The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland Obasan
Space -
The spreadsheet has been updated in message #4 of the reporting thread.I have to work all day, so I probably won't be back online until 7 pm CST and will do another update then. Depending on what I'm working on, I may be able to start with an audiobook at work, but I'm not sure. If not, I'll start the Toppler in the car on the way home. I hope everyone enjoys the books they read today!
I am starting with When Girlfriends Step Up. This book is the task for new author to me. Happy Reading everyone!
I started Lucky Us at noon, but since it's on audio and I have time now to read, I'm starting Legacy of Masks, too.
The spreadsheet has been updated on the reporting thread in Message #4 and we now have 3 books read with 30 points earned. Congrats to Rebecca and Wanda for being our first team members to finish a book.
I've started The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, book #3 in publication order of The Chronicles of Narnia. This is a pleasure after a long day at work.
Hi Team! Wow, already 3 books read, you are very quick! My first book is The Edge of Reason for eyes.
Spreadsheet update I've updated the spreadsheet, and we now have 6 books read and 60 points. Rebecca must be curled up and reading all day to have 5 finishes already. How I envy her!
Don't forget that there are 3 sets of books that need to be read to qualify for bonus points. It would be really helpful if we all concentrate on those first. Check the spreadsheet to see which still need to be read.
I have to go to work again, but I plan to finish The Voyage of the Dawn Treader for Collecting comic books – Read a book that’s part of a series before I leave. My next book will be The Good Girl for Read a book with a human head (or a human looking alien). Mostly the head, as little of the body as possible.
I'm afraid to say I pooped out real early last night. Insomnia the night before. I hate it when that happens. So, I'm hoping to finish my first book today. Got my iced coffee with a shot of espresso and am working on it!
I finished The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and updated the spreadsheet in message #4 of the reporting thread. I'm leaving for work and will start The Good Girl in the car. I'll check status this evening and update the spreadsheet again then.We now stand at 7 books read for 70 points.
I need a wake-up potion! I feel all groggy and am having a hard time focusing. Send some good vibes my way, team!
Debra wrote: "I need a wake-up potion! I feel all groggy and am having a hard time focusing. Send some good vibes my way, team!"I'm groggy too, and I fell asleep last night with a headache and am now awake - 14 hours later. I have a lot to catch up on! At least my audio books will be easy. I'm going to go read now and try to get one book finished.
Been sick the past couple of days and watching more tv than reading, but got halfway through The Tempest.
Spreadsheet update We now have 9 books read for 90 points. Thing Two, I've included your finish, but I think you also need to post it in the reporting thread.
We've hit 100! With Debra's finish, we've reached 100 points. I'm now going offline to continue listening to The Good Girl and stitching And They Sinned.
I'm over a third thru my first book, The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland. It's a quick read, I'm just a slow reader today. I think partly because it's bringing back a lot of emotions and memories of being glued to the tv for days.
Finished my book finally! Off to report it now. I'll start one of my three audiobooks tomorrow. Now it's time to go to bed.
Spreadsheet updateI've updated the spreadsheet, and we now have 110 points. Pragya, I did the update from the reporting thread and just saw your book selection here. I have to get to work, so that will show up when I do the next update this evening.
Don't forget about the bonus points when you select your next books to read!
I'm reading My Ántonia for classic, and after that will read Aftershocks for job you'd like your date to have. The main character is a doctor.
I started The King of Plagues at lunch today. Bad news I have to work until 8pm, so may not get much reading done today. Good news is I have Tue and Wed off work, so can read then... just hope I don't have more of the groggy/can't focus days!
Finally read The Tempest. I bought it two years ago when I saw The Tempest at The Globe so I could try to understand it better. Shakespeare has never been one of my strong points. I used it a few times while there to figure out parts of the text but never got around to reading the whole thing. It was interesting, reading the background and theories.
Spreadsheet update The spreadsheet is updated, and we're at 130 points. I'll finish The Good Girl in 2 1/2 hours, and I'm really enjoying that. This morning I downloaded Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot's Guide to the Land of Knitting, which is perfect for Crafting. It's a short one (218 pages, 4 hrs 25 min audio) so I'll finish it tomorrow for certain.
I found another of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's knitting books, At Knit's End, with 320 pages, 3 hrs 48 min audio, so maybe I'll read that first.
I should be done with Scarpetta in an hour. It is set in Manhattan, which is an island, so we can use it to get those points. I'll post when I am done.
Beth, you reported that Scarpetta has weapons, so I'm going to move it to "Shooting – Read a book with some serious gunplay, or some type of weapon being used" since someone has already read a book for Island and we need the points for Shooting.I just finished The Good Girl for a book cover with a head, and I'm about to post the spreadsheet update. We're up to 150 points now.
The audiobook recording of At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much that I downloaded from the library sounded very scratchy, so I'm returning that one. I am now listening to Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot's Guide to the Land of Knitting, which is slightly longer but a better recording. I'll have that done tomorrow for Crafts.
Spreadsheet update J'mom, I apologize for not catching your finish in my prior update. We were posting finishes at the same time. We're also starting to close in on a couple of the bonus categories!
I’ve finished Unseen for crime thriller, and am now reading Gilt Trip which is another murder mystery.

No problem, it happens frequently :) It's good to see the bonus tasks being completed!
