annapi | 5505 comments This is a collection of autobiographical essays focusing on the author's pets and the wildlife she has encountered in her life, the animals that taught her "how to be a good creature". It's a wonderful, heartwarming, delightful, amusing, and joyful celebration of the love that animals can bring into the lives of humans. I had originally thought it was a book for children, but although I was mistaken I think young adults (and probably older adults too) will take to this more easily than to Montgomery's longer, more focused books. The shorter vignettes are less likely to lose the reader's attention and don't overwhelm with scientific information if you're not the science-mad type. I know it captured me - I read it in one sitting. And the photos are lovely, though I wish they had been in color. My rating is 4.5, but I'll easily round up.
