Stefanie How does gifting via Smashwords work? I fear that that's the only international option I have to gift ebooks.
Do I have to transfer my elfster wishlist to my Smashwords profile?

Smashwords is easy to gift, there is the option on any book they have up for sale to gift it to someone else.
So long as you have an Elfster wishlist, people should be able to find your requests on either Amazon or Smashwords if they're from a different country.

Stefanie Perfect, thank you! I will stop worrying now. ;)

Malorie (Firereader) (firereader2316) | 26 comments Is the $15 limit per book or total? What is the limit of how many books we put on our lists? And how many books on your match's list do you buy? I've never done this so I don't know the process or etiquette quite yet 😊

It's a loose limit. Some people will go right to $15 (total amount), some won't.

$15 is a start... I usually put a mix of cheap and cheaper books so my Secret Santa can choose. So I can get more books *lol* But I experienced one year when my giftee's wishlist was all books above $10 so I ended up buying one book and a giftcard

message 58: by Trio (new)

Trio | 157 comments One year I had someone who wanted an audiobook so I used a credit (which costs me about $9) and I still had money to buy them a few books off their wish list as well.

message 59: by Hemmel M. (new)

Hemmel M. | 405 comments That credit system stops me from asking audiobooks. I pay 4 euro per audiobook. I am worried might ask someone to spend 16 euro on the same item.

I think it depends on a lot. If you like audiobooks, I would put them on your wishlist as an option!

I put lots of books on my list ranging from $6 or so to .99. I also put some from publishers and some from Amazon (because I use Amazon.ca and not everyone can use that) I figure it lets the person decide which ones look interesting and they think would be a good read. Less fun if you put 3 books and get 3 books. Put 15 and which 3 you'll get is part of the surprise.

message 62: by Tam (new)

Tam (cdn_tam) Still not sure about the elf name and remaining anonymous (fair warning you'll likely know who I am the first time), but I guess I'll figure that out when the time comes. LOL

message 63: by Beth (new)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 29 comments I added amazon gift card to my wishlist but it wouldn’t let me change it from $50 to since that is the default. So make sure if you are sending a gift card to change the price

message 64: by Beth (new)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 29 comments I’ve never used Smashwords and looking at the website, it’s a bit convoluted and would prefer just Elfster. What should I do in the case of getting someone that cannot send from Amazon?

LOL, my wishlist has about 35 books on it. But that gives your match plenty of choices, plus I use it as sort of a "I really want these" list for myself, and gift a few of what's left to myself, after the exchange is over. :) Plus seeing what everybody else gets makes me add to it as well!

I try not to put books that are too expensive on my list but you shouldn't worry too much about it or only try to list the very cheapest things. People won't buy what they can't afford and there are so many sales for the holidays, and that helps out too. And I know others *and have done it myself* that save up their audible credits and use those to gift audiobooks. So it all works out. :)

Smashwords does look a bit confusing but it's not too bad. If someone can't get books through Amazon US, they usually have something in their Elfster profile that will tell you how to gift them. Plus gift cards always work. :)

If you do have to go on Smashwords and it gives you a problem, just ask, somebody can walk you through it.

message 67: by Hemmel M. (new)

Hemmel M. | 405 comments Last year I struggled with Smashwords but it was my only option. Now I know how it works, I happy with their existence. There are less novels available, but I'm grateful I can join your gift exchange.
My advise: Just wait for the right mood, breath out, and go for it.

Hi Beth, Smashwords and Elfster are a bit different. Elfster is to put your wish. Smashwords is where to buy the books. Worse comes to worse, if any of the trick doesn't work, you can send the e-books via email. Although that should be the LAST option 🙂

If you want your books to go directly to your kindle, then yes, it should be whatever email you use for your Amazon account. :)

Now that you say that, I do remember once getting a gift to the wrong email and it still worked, so Heather's right. Ignore me, LOL. :)

Try to ask question on their profile. It's an anonymous question. Ask if the list is still updated. Hopefully they will answer you quickly

Leelah🍁♋️ Orion | 14 comments Probably been asked but how do I send now? When I go to their wish list it takes me to the amazon, but when I get there and click on buy for another person it asks for their email. Where would that be located? The only info showing on wish list is their actual mailing address

Are you an international customer only able to use amazon.com? Try using a US address to receive it. I'm using a hotel address

Leelah, click on MORE INFO on Elfster. Elfster somehow "hides" the email address. It is located right below the actual mailing address

Ami (amie_07) | 336 comments Lillian wrote: "Hi, stupid question but how can I put some profile information in for my gifter to see. My amazon email address, Smashwords email, preferred format and stuff like that."

Lillian, my advice, put it on top of your ELFSTER wishlist. If you go to your Elfster wishlist page, there's a "Setting" button on top right. Click it. Then you can add an "Optional Note" for everyone to see. Just write down your email there

message 95: by Ami (new)

Ami (amie_07) | 336 comments Lena wrote: "Thanks, yes I'm an international customer, I've changed the address - still doesn't work..."

Lena, if you're on computer and open the Amazon website, try to change the country/region too, not just the address. Change the country/region to the US. It should be the one with the "flag".

How do you do that? I've been trying to add some info, like a, hi this is me, i like ..., and here's my email address (cos i signed up with a different one to my Amazon one). But i can't work out how to do that.

message 97: by Ami (new)

Ami (amie_07) | 336 comments @Lillian

This is based on my phone browser, okay. Mobile look is slightly different than computer

1) Sign In to Elfster
2) Click Wishlist
3) Click Option (Top Right)
4) You will get the Manage Wishlist menu, then click Settings
5) Scroll down your Settings page, there should be an OPTIONAL NOTE down below. Write down anything you want there for people to see
