For November, please nominate any mystery/crime/thriller/spy story/true-crime book you've had sitting on your shelves (either real or virtual) for a while and haven't yet read.

As a reminder:
*please don't nominate your own books
*if your book wins the vote, you will be the group discussion leader. If you don't want to do that, please don't nominate a book.
*it would be nice if the group hasn't read the book in the last three years

Aditya | 2017 comments I usually prefer my crime novels darker, so I keep putting this one off, the most recent Edgar winner for best novel - The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffiths.

The Stranger Diaries

I would like to nominate Joseph Wambaugh's The Onion Field, which by the time November rolls around, will have been sitting on my shelf for three years.

I've had that on my radar for a while and recently picked up a copy.

I'll probably read it anyway even if it doesn't win. Given that it's only been on the shelf three years, it's a comparative youngster to many of my unread books.

Even the author is new to me, so I have no idea what to expect.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 2698 comments I actually like Elly Griffiths. I'm a fan of her Ruth Galloway series.

I'll be calling it a day on nominations as of this evening. In other words, last call.

Okay, we have plenty of nominations, so thanks to all who participated. I'll be putting up a poll on Wednesday, & will broadcast a message when it's done.

Mine too, this was my other option coincidentally before I zeroed in on the Stranger Diaries.

Message notifications are still not coming, I think a lot of people might miss out on voting. Goodreads is sure taking its sweet time fixing it. The group reads are also seeing a lot less activity this month.

I know, but I think pms are getting through so we'll give it a try and I'll post the poll link. This is just stupid -- one would think that in the space of five days the powers that be could have their issues taken care of.

Sorry, we're finished with nominations now. Also, there's normally only one nomination per person. Poll will be up tomorrow.

If this is not fixed within this week, consider maybe pushing them to December and extend this month's books till November. There is no point in a group read if there is no participation, I am myself holding off on posting on the LA Confidential thread.

Good idea, actually. I may do that if Bill agrees.

My husband works at and is part owner of an IT company, and said that this is going on way too long if it's just website maintenance, which is the message from support even as of today. Either they have crap IT people or something is really wrong.

I saw the film a long time ago. Ted Danson is in it. No Shelly Long though.

I finished the book yesterday, so if the film is even half as good, I'll be very happy.
