A sci-fi like happenings to an adult character. So the part has a adult man running from a flying machine chasing him because of escaping prison (I am pretty sure) or a least from an area he wasn’t supposed to get out of. So because he is running from the machine for long enough time in that amount of time that when he is caught by the machine he weighs LESS then 145 pounds & for some reason the machines only register a prisoner(human) in the weight range if of from 145-215 pounds. So if under 145 pounds or over 215 pounds the machine won’t take you, so he was free.
It could be from regular length book or short story. I’d say it came out 80s or 90s

Sue Blaikie | 161 comments This sounds very much like The Ruum by Arthur Porges but I don’t think the character was escaping from prison so possibly not.
The Ruum and Other Science Fiction Stories by Arthur Porges

Topher | 12 comments What i thought could that. Sounds close enough to be it & was leaning towards it being a short story. I wasn’t sure on the escaping part. But it could be "The Ruum" by Arthur Porges

If you think there's a good chance that this is your book, you can put this request in the "Possibly Solved" folder, by clicking the 'edit' link next to the subject line / title.

If this turns out to be the book you're looking for, come back and tell us that we were successful in our guesses. We keep the old requests (please don't delete it), so new people who're using a search function can easily find the same book, based on your keywords/description. We move these finished requests to one of the "Solved" folders, the same way as above. (In addition, I like to edit my requests to show the title and author at the top of the original post, so it shows up in google results easily).

If it turns out that this wasn't your book, or you want more suggestions - you can put this query back into the "Unsolved" folder at any time, and bump it (although we ask you to not bump it more than once a month) to put it back to the head of the queue, so it doesn't get buried in the older requests.
