That is strange. I posted another a little while ago with no problems. Hope you can sort it Carolyn.

GR seems to think I have already posted a review of the book. I do have two editions in my library and when I click on the other edition there is no review there (and no dates for reading it) but removing the edition has allowed me to post the review of the other edition.

This also happened at the beginning of the year when I first entered the Challenge but, having raised it with Goodreads, I did get a few comments - although I hadn't responded to the email from Goodreads asking for lots of detailed (and largely) irrelevant information. Surely it is just a question of whether my 'Notifications' is set up correctly?! Which I have checked and seems to give all permissions. Now I have received the same email from Goodreads, asking me to try clearing my browser cache, asking what devices it happens on etc (most of which I don't understand), exactly as they did when it didn't work at the beginning of the year. I just despair really!!

Hi Brenda. It's the Goodreads Annual Reading Challenge that I always seem to get a problem with.
Ahhh not one I can help you with! Sorry. I hope it sorts itself out before the end or by the end of the year!

The only thing I can suggest Kim, is to make sure all your books have a read date.

Hi Brenda. I always make sure my books have a 'date read' but that's not really the issue. My Challenge is showing as Completed on my Goodreads page but it would appear that the 'Kim has completed his Goodreads Challenge' status has not been added to the Notifications thread so none of my friends have seen that I have completed it! Not that it's that important, just annoying!

You can only complain to support, perhaps the more people that do complain to them may accomplish a reversal.

It has definitely changed the Goodreads experience. But it's not just that. At the same time, other issues have taken place alongside it, which just magnify the issue.
My Goodreads 'news feed' is completely haywire. The algorithm has shifted. I'm not seeing many reviews of people I follow and vice versa. When I browse the feed, it soon begins showing me reviews from people I rarely interact with, or haven't seen before - from up to four weeks ago.
I've also noticed many active people have "last active October 2024" on their profiles, despite clearly being active today etc. I had this too. It only went away once I manually signed out, signed back in via my laptop.
I'm sure there are other new issues too. I just needed to vent somewhere. It's really unfortunate. I might complain to support. If these changes are permanent, I'm not sure Goodreads will survive long-term.

This is exactly what I'm talking about Kim. It sounds like your completed Goodreads challenge just disappeared into the void due to these notification and news feed issues. How frustrating for you - because that's something worth celebrating with friends!
The "last active October" is a known bug, but the rest is GR messing things up, big time! A huge amount of unhappy people, and I've found I'm not getting all notifications even though I now tick the box. It's extremely frustrating but they don't seem to care!

I'm the same, Brenda! It seems the tick boxes aren't properly working how they should. Unfortunate they don't seem to care. I'm already missing so many reviews from friends on here.
My suggestion for that would be to check out our review thread here fairly regularly. I know that won't help with your other friends, but those in AR will be seen by you. I noticed after I'd finished a book the other day, and was writing a review, that you had the same book on your TBR - Second Chance - so I'm keen to see your review when you've read it.
I use the drop down Discussions from the Community section at the top of the page, and I don't think I'm missing things now, as it shows all my groups. It's hard to get used to, but I slowly am. Plus the bell icon for comments on reviews, likes of reviews etc. Good luck Rowan :)

There seems to be so many different things on Goodreads which are falling apart. It used to be such a good site but quite a lot of my Goodreads friends say they'll not be using it much in the future. I'm hoping that lots of people will write to the CEO or similar responsible person and let them know.
I've also been using the drop down 'Discussions' but finding it is time consuming and rarely useful. I scroll through the Home page to see what's been happening. I see you a lot, Brenda, so I know you are busily keeping us all going.
Thanks Anna :) I rarely use the Home page, and yes, Discussions is time consuming. The way people are talking within GR in other groups I'm in, there's talk of moving over to other sites. Amazon is running the show here now, and with Otis (the founder of GR) long gone, I don't really think we can expect much, especially from Amazon. GR will probably limp along for awhile yet - hopefully anyway - as I don't want to see the groups disappear, all the work we put into our challenges and keeping everyone up to speed. It's frustrating, but there doesn't seem to be anything can be done. Those who contact support seem to get the generic replies, never the personal touch that we used to have. A real shame...

Thanks for the info, Brenda.

Phrynne is the same Sandra. It's getting used to it after 15 years of using emails that's taking me awhile! lol
I get too many emails everyday without having them from here as well. I just scan the discussions every day - it's only the ones with the little red (new) that you have to look at:)

Thanks for those suggestions, Brenda! I'm sure they will be useful. I'm glad you're getting used to it. Just wish Goodreads wasn't always trying to make life harder for us!
I enjoyed your review for Second Chance!

Are you talking about email notifications Clare? As they've been permanently stopped for around a month now.

Yes Janelle, I'm only getting likes
Mine are okay as well. GR is having its annual update, started 23rd December until 8th January. So not much will be able to be done if problems arise.

My notifications stopped 18 Dec, I guess they'll start again 8 Jan 🙄

Mine slowly stopped throughout today. Now, as others have said, I'm only getting review likes. But the red numbers on individual threads in the groups are still there, thankfully!
