EDITING BUG!!! And other bugs!

Yep agreed!

Mine will happen a lot with this Sarah, I re try with some users and give up. Then with others it will work, so to me, it's very hit and miss. Very frustrating when you are trying to work out whether to accept a friend invite etc!

Yes! Me too!
Some threads in some groups are slowly being fixed. The reviews thread in our group is okay now.

It was something they said would be removed. That being said, I still get recs every now and then so there must be a loophole somewhere.

I worked out how to do it, if anyone's interested.
In the list under your profile pic, choose Friends recommendations.
Then, on the right side of the page you can choose

This is doable through edit profile, choose settings and go from there. Settings and emails each have their own section. I haven't done this for a while, though. But I've always had email notifications turned off, because I don't want them.

Are you completely sure it is gone Suz? Which book is it?

I had that happen recently Suz - I knew I had read and reviewed the book but it wasn't in my library and none of the editions of it showed up as 'read'. I still had a copy of my review saved in Word so I was able to copy it in again. I have no idea how that could have happened.

Let us know the book Suz, so we can check for you.

It's as if the series link picks up only certain editions, and if I've reviewed an ebook and not the paperback (or whatever), the list shows that title as unread.
I'd suggest looking up the book, then going to the list of ALL EDITIONS and see if anything there is showing as read by you.
Also lately I seem to finding an awful lot multiple entries of the same book, so I keep asking librarians to combine (which they do).
Do let us know which title and author. Brenda can fix anything!
I have also seen the unread books thing Patty. I find that if you fiddle around a bit you can get the books to show as read again.
I haven't experienced a lost review yet but then I have not been looking!

Someone in another group said that's because they're different editions, and that it's always been like that. But I beg to differ as I've only noticed it since the big change...

See what you think:
The House With All The Lights On
Only 3 editions so I don't hold much hope. It had about 25 likes or something like that.

I think I'll have to do the same Carolyn, just adds another layer and gives me another job to do!
I remember reading and liking your review Suz. There are 59 likes, and comments saying "great review" etc. So it was there.

I've just checked to see if there was another which needed combining, but can't see one. I would suggest getting in touch with Support, showing the link to your "review" which is missing the review portion. See if they can locate it. Let us know how you go...

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for providing the additional information. I've checked and confirmed with our Developers that they're already aware of this issue and they're actively working on fixing the problem. I've now added your report to the Developer ticket, so that they have as much information as possible while investigating and implementing a solution to this. In the meantime, I want to apologize for the inconvenience and to thank you for your patience while this is resolved.
I hope I was able to assist you with this issue in the interim. If there is anything else you need assistance with or have any additional follow up questions please let me know as I'd be happy to help.
Best,
Wendy
Well that's a good response Suz. Much more than the generic "we'll get to it when we can" type answer. I hope you have some satisfaction soon! Obviously it's happened to others as well.

Thanks for this comment Patti as I just thought it was me going crazy. I've been fixing them as I notice them but I'm just glad to realise that it is not me.

That's definitely not true. I always read e or audible versions but until now it hasn't made a difference - the book has just come up as read.

That's a fabulous response. There are a lot of companies that could take a lesson from that response!!

Did you ever find your review, Suz? I distinctively remember that review of yours. But now can't see it on that book page. I've also had a review 'deleted' lately. No idea which one though Haha

Suz, I write each of my reviews on a their own word doc and give the title something like Review-Winnie the Pooh - AA Milne, and then I keep them in a folder for the right month and eventually shift them all to the right year. That way, they are all sorted by title, no matter what, and I can find the day they were created if my folders fail.
Goodreads is fantastic - until it isn't, and I can't remember all the people and plots I've read about, but rereading an old review will bring a lot back (that's why mine are long and have quotes!)
Sorry you've lost that one. I know we can export our book lists, but I wonder if we will ever be able to export reviews. Hmmm....
Whatever you do, do not give up!!

I think when it exports reviews are included. I export as an excel file and every data point has a column and the review is one of them (I think)

“march:%0A**%20St%20Patrick's%20Day,%20Mar%2017%3A%20Read%20a%20book%20with%20a%20GREEN%20cover%20(show%20cover)%20OR%20read%20a%20book%20with%20an%20Irish%20character.%0A**%” etc
I tried resetting my iPad & cleared the cache… The result was the same.
Is anyone else having similar problems? Am I missing something obvious?
I used a MacBook successfully to copy & paste a large post in another group a few days ago when the iPad didn’t do it - but my concern is that a future iOS update there too could cause the same issue so I need to resolve it. I have visions of completing a future challenge & having to type every detail again! I’m grateful for any advice.
I don't use an ipad Tr1sha, but Phrynne does. She might be able to advise next time she's online. I use my laptop, with small things easily done on my phone. But nothing big - that's all the laptop :)

(I added the comma there, Clare. 🤣)
Yes, I see that GR does export the reviews with all of the HTML markup, although it would need some tweaking to repost it that way. But at least you can copy the column, paste somewhere and fix the punctuation markup that isn't correct. It's sure better than losing the whole thing.
Thanks for that, Clare!

In the meantime, Tr1sha, you might try copying and pasting into a document or an email or another form of some sort and see what happens. What you've posted looks like it's picked up some formatting markup instead of the finished product, so to speak.
I also use a laptop, but sometimes the GR and/or iOS updates don't play nicely together.

Sorry I am no help Tr1sha. I hardly use my iPad these days - moving data around is much easier on my laptop.
Is anyone else getting inundated with "I am not a robot" messages? The horrible one with pictures of traffic lights etc.
It started for me this week and is becoming very irritating.

According to a report I read, Amazon bought the Goodreads site simply to mine the data (users) and have not put in the investment to improve its capability or usability. Sounds about right don't you think?
