BIG SPOILERS: This book had a teenage girl and her friends head away for the summer and mysteriously start dying off - usually near water (pool, on jet skis). She found and wearing this mood ring that apparently belonged to the ghost but as the book went on and she started seeing the ghost more and more it became clear by the end after everyone was dead that she had actually done the killing - possessed by the spirit or reincarnated as a woman who was executed on the day she was born in the late 1960s for murder. They seem to merge into one being by the end.

Are these books the right style? Did it seem like part of a '90s teen horror series?
Yes, it was but perhaps a little bit longer...I seem to remember it being a bit thicker than the average fear street or similar. It was definitely a group of older teenagers, and had that vibe, but it was not part of a series.
That may be it. I will see if I can snag a copy and see!
