I would LOVE to read this one since I live in Buffalo, where this takes place. So it's strange my library doesn't have it. I'm going to try to get it through interlibrary loan so hopefully I'll have it in time.
I LOVE Dan Simmons, so THAT group read is my first priority, but this one sounded so mighty damn cool, that I clicked on the Amazon link, to check the price, and was super happy to see: "You purchased this item in July, 2017!!" Wicked. --Jen from Quebec :0)
Just finished the book.... man I did not like it at all, which is extremely unfortunate. The idea was very interesting but the execution was eye roll inducing.
I got my copy yesterday and this one looks to be a wild ride, and I’m only on page 40. Prepared to be scared! Happy Halloween reading!
I'm also waiting on mine but I hope to catch up fast!
I finished my copy of this book a few days ago. I had mixed reactions to the book, particularly due to the continued narrative voice of our down-on-luck homeless narrator, Michael Fox. I would have loved to get into the head of one of the "bad guys."Except....every time his name was brought up, I kept expecting Alex P. Keaton from "Family Ties" to pop up around the corner. That imagery of a conservative '80s teenager, for me at any rate, kept following Michael Fox through his many surgeries.
Netanella wrote: "I finished my copy of this book a few days ago. I had mixed reactions to the book, particularly due to the continued narrative voice of our down-on-luck homeless narrator, Michael Fox. I would have..."Lol! I kept saying 'great scott' throughout the whole thing.
I really liked the first part of the book, the pacing was great and I found it difficult to put down, but the second half went off the rails for me. It got really weird really fast.
It's a shame to hear a few people aren't enjoying this. I myself only heard about it recently, but I like the sound of it. I'll still give it a go.
Not a book to be taken too seriously! A lot of fun & humor, the main character is a hoot. The author is brilliant!
Kind of enjoyable, a quick read, if completely lacking in depth. Mike was wafer thin. Some of the writing is utterly juvenile. Unfortunately a lot of average horror, to me anyhow, seems inspired by film rather than psychology and terror. Here, the villains and henchmen reminded me of something out of a Steven Seagal film; behaving ludicrously, almost pantomime. And don't get me started on the science....
