It often surprises me when I really enjoy a coming-of-age homosexual story because it's not something I can relate to. But when they are done well (i.e. On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous), they are universal. That is the beauty of books. They take us out of our natural habitats and allow us to experience something new.
This book takes place in Poland at the end of communism so being a homosexual was especially dangerous and something to be hidden. In addition to the love story, there is some political strife and I felt the book gave a good sense of the time.

Really enjoyed it.
