So I remember there’s an efficient stay at home pto mom type character, and her best friend gets cancer and eventually dies by the end of the book. I think the pto mom was named something like piper? Piper takes care of her best friend that whole time along with her best friends husband, and Piper eventually divorces her jerk husband and at the end she gets together with her best friend’s widower husband. Her and her best friend had two kids around the same ages so now they have four kids. Happy family.

Also all of this was the secondary plot. The main plot was about a couple expecting their first child. I remember this part much less clearly but I think they discovered something before the baby was born that almost broke them up. The pregnant lady hated Piper at the beginning but they were friends by the end. I think there was another woman character that the pregnant lady thought was her friend but turned out to betray her in some way, related to why she almost broke up with her husband. Like maybe she had the husband’s baby? Or she WAS the husband’s baby? I’m reaching now. They called the baby penny while she was in the womb and named her rose when she was born, I’m pretty sure.

I read this book maybe 10 years ago, so some time between like 2008-2015? It was a modern fiction. I want to say the setting had a beach? I keep wanting to say New England or Australia, but maybe that’s just because I’ve read too many liane Moriarty books.

If anyone knows what this is I’ll be so grateful because that image of piper with her new family has been stuck in my head for years.
