I recall reading this book in the very early 2000's it's before the whole twilight craze,

I recall the cover being of a young possibly teen girl with long curlyish hair very much the style of the 90's/2000's and it was purple cover

I for the heck of me can't recall the title or author.
I do remember this girl trying to sleep and being visited all the time by a man almost dream like figure who had similar hungers like her.
I don't think the author ever calls him or her a vampire, just they have a hunger for blood.

I do remember very specifically that the girl is having lunch with some people, being extremely shy and nervous, because she doesn't eat food I'm assuming she only fed on blood, but orders a RAW burger.
another male in the story is talking to her and by the time the conversation is over the burger is a pool of blood that she still consumes in front of everyone.

There was a romance between the two and I believe there was a 2nd guy in the mix, who liked her, and I believe high school age could be correct because the raw burger scene I’m thinking of could have taken place in a cafeteria.
