SOLVED. Children's Fantasy novel. A physically-handicapped boy who gets a statue of a dragon that he uses for revenge. Read in late 1990s. [s]

I remember it is about a kid with some sort of disorder, I don't remember the details but it involves loss of bladder control at one point. He somehow acquires a small statue of a dragon, gold with blue wings I think, that starts coming to life to defend him or get revenge on those who have wronged him, growing to "hawk-size" each time. The main part I remember is some bullies tie him up and leave him in a hole or building, and he wets his pants before he can get out. He sends the dragon out after them and it burns down their clubhouse. Very depressing story. I read it in the late nineties. Anyone know it?
