We learn that Mac has operated as an undercover DEA agent for the past three years. Did you see that kind of revelation coming? In retrospect, were there any clues?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I certainly didn't see that revelation coming. It makes sense though. He was one of the people who helped the cops figure out where the killers had taken Brody's partner. He seemed to know what he was doing at that time.

Boy did that catch me off guard! After he disclosed it, things started to make sense, though. In the last book, he showed skills that went beyond what he might have learned as a child from his father. I was really impressed but did wonder if the author had gone too far in those scenes. Nicely done, though. It was believable in retrospect.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments No, I didn't see this coming. Actually, this required some suspension of disbelief as being a Federal agent requires training and a law enforcement background. The author explains this away, but it wasn't sufficient for me.

As to his skills in the previous book, I connected them to his father's survivalist training rather than being a DEA agent.

In fact, the impression I got is that he was more of DEA informant/consultant than an agent because he was hired due to his cover as a wildlife biologist.

What impressed me in the last book was his planning and execution skills in helping to rescue Hannah and Brody. That seemed extraordinary to me.

Yes, that was what impressed me as well.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't see it coming at all. I like that he was working for the DEA though. It makes him more mature than his family believes. He has skills that he learned from his father that the DEA used. I'm a big Mac fan for sure.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I didn't see it coming either, but I wasn't totally surprised by it either. After he stayed so calm and handled the situation in the jungle I kinda figured he was more than a biologist with mad skills.

That’s a great point, Anita. He showed some real moves in Brazil.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I never saw that coming! But thinking back, I should have realized that there was more going on other than being a biologist. I started to wonder a bit if there was something more going on after how he handled himself in Brazil too. But I never thought that he was a DEA agent.
