Stella was part of the team that got in the gun fight in the last book where Lance was severely injured. In this story we see her dealing with the residual trauma of that experience. Your thoughts about how her feelings manifested themselves in her mind and performance?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments She is blaming herself for the deaths and injuries. I believe that is understandable especially since they all work so closely. It is interesting that she can't function at the range. I guess she is trying to over adjust to hit her target and ends up going wide which makes her worry even more.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I can understand her feeling guilty about Lance's injury and the subsequent death of two cops. Even though it really wasn't her fault, I can see her having problems dealing with what happened.

What I liked about this is how realistic Stella’s feelings were portrayed. She will never stop thinking about missing that shot and what happened next will always haunt her. It’s starting to paralyze her ability to shoot with confidence. If you’ve ever experienced trauma, this sounds familiar. And, it’s not something that’s often visible. Yet, she powers through it.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1803 comments Yes, Stella feels responsible for Lance's injury and the deaths of the other two officers. Even though she wasn't to blame, she is human (as Mac says) and her nightmares and problems are the range are manifestations of PTSD.

Exactly.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Yes, I thought that Stella's emotions and actions were realistic.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Stella blames herself for both Lance's injury and the death of the two cops. She is over thinking everything and second guessing her every move. Her problem with at the gun range is part of this.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I agree with all of you. It makes perfect sense that she would blame herself and not be comfortable with decisions she is making. Her problem with the gun range is understandable.
