Karey Weisman Eals | 3 comments This series takes place in the 20th century, probably not later than the 70s. There are 5-6 books, like 350 pages each.

The lady is rich or "comfortable," ?inherits? the estate she moves into.

Not married, no kids, but attracts chosen family. I think she falls in love with someone in the village.

There's a nice car, and trips into London.

In one of the later books, the plot revolves around a family of orphaned children.

The villagers are repressed British people, she is the only one with emotional intelligence so everyone confides in her.

There's a garden, of course.

They're not mysteries, just novels with emotional events.

I know this is so vague. Thanks in advance for your help -- would love to reread!

Karey Weisman Eals | 3 comments Thank you, Rainbowheart, but that’s not it. It’s from the main character woman’s perspective, narrated in third person.

Karey Weisman Eals | 3 comments I found the series! NB: AbeBooks.com not only is a wonderful source for cheap used books, but they keep all your orders archived! The author is Sybil Marshall and the books are: A Nest of Magpies, Strip the Willow, Chequer-Board, A Late Lark Singing, Sharp Through the Hawthorn, Ring the Bell Backwards. So happy!
