Week 10, Spot 86

How it fits: #6 in the Witch P. I. series
Pages: 228
Read: 11/23
This is just what I needed with the doom and gloom starting to really get to me. This series is a light, fun paranormal cozy involving a witch P.I., her one-eyed sarcastic cat, her fanatical knitter receptionist, a super-grumpy high witch grandmother, and various other quirky family members. A variety of cases and bursts of action round the stories out perfectly. In this installment the mc works on two different cases, cotinues to train with her grandmother, and faces an unexpected being.

I really enjoyed this book it was full of action. I loved the blue haired devil who's name is Gideon. He is the keeper of lies that means he always has to lie he can never tell the truth. When ever he says something it means the complete opposite of what he said. He has just meet the keeper of nightmears and she told him that they are married and have a son together. The only problem is that he can't remember a thing but he knows this woman, he yearns for this woman.

Conspiracy in Death by Conspiracy in Death
How it Fits: In Death #8
Pages: 372
Finished: 11/27/20
Review: This one was .... ok? The first part was really hard for me to get through. I didn't even want to pick it up. But I kept reading and thankfully the book redeemed itself in the end, but not enough to make me love it. But I can't say that this one was my favorite in the series.

Review:
I've forgotten how much I enjoy these books. It's fantasy, but it's so funny. I love the characters and how they interact.
And the main conflict it's pretty interesting too. I felt this book was a closure for a part of the plot and now we're entering the last part of the story.
If you want to have fun while reading a fantasy story, this series is the one.

This was a reread for me. It was interesting to me reading it, knowing the secret. There wasn't much that i missed the first time, so I was a little surprised by that, though.

Book: Premeditated Mortar by Kate Carlisle
Pages: 304
How it Fits: 8th book in the Fixer-Upper Mystery series
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review:
Although I enjoy Kate Carlisle’s Bibliophile series, there’s a reason her Fixer-Upper Mystery series is one of my favorites. Premediated Mortar, the eighth book in this fantastic series, is no exception.
Shannon Hammer and her construction crew have been commissioned by her friend, Jane Hennessey, to turn a wing of the Gables, an abandoned mental asylum, into a luxury hotel and spa. The prospect of construction, however, has attracted protestors with a vested interest in seeing the Gables destroyed. After a planned presentation goes awry, halting any progress on the project, Shannon and her boyfriend, Mac (who is an investor in the project) begin to investigate. Their probe intensifies when one of the protestors is found murdered, a murder that is somehow connected to the asylum’s sinister past.
The characters that populate Lighthouse Cove are the heart of this story. Shannon is strong, level-headed and practical, always thinking outside the box. Her boyfriend, Mac, is both charming and real, with a clever sense of humor. Even the protesters were drawn as complete people, each with a personality of his or her own. The mystery itself is multi-faceted and compelling, with so many clues (and red herrings) that you might just overlook the most important one.
It is worth noting that this book had a harder edge to it that some of its predecessors, in large part due to the subject matter at hand. Ms. Carlisle’s exploration of mental illness and its treatment in institutions is both realistic and disheartening. And while it is obvious that a great deal of research went into the book, it only served to enhance the story. Premediated Mortar is a thoroughly entertaining and suspenseful read. I can hardly wait for the next book in this delightful series.
Note: I received an ARC of Premeditated Mortar from NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group. The above is my honest review.

Read: 11/29
This is another of my favorite series, though, like the others, I'm lucky to read one or two a year. The author always does a great job of injecting humor into very serious cases, making for a good read. This one is set around Christmas, with four rather inept criminal characters dressed as gingerbread men, inept except for a murder. Throw in the case of a crooked DA, and our P. I. lead character has her work cut out for her, just as she likes it.

I loved every second of this book Jamie and Zanie were perfect together. They have been meeting each other in her dreams since she was four years old. They were friends but, she knew that they always belonged together. She also knew that I hey would be responsible for ending the war. How and when that would happen who would live and die wasn't to clear to her.

Turkey Day Murder by Leslie Meier
How it Fits: Lucy Stone #7
Pages: 233
Finished: 12/4/20
Review: Another good installment in the Lucy Stone series. I really like these books, it's a good blend of cozy and not-so-cozy. That probably makes no sense, ha! Once again I had completely pegged the wrong person as the murderer, I love how these books always keep me guessing. Another installment that has me eager to get to the next book!

Review:
I believe these authors are really imaginative and work great together. I had lots of fun reading the book and learning how everything is going to resolve eventually.
I didn't like the new character, but I didn't have to like her haha so that's good, but I hope she dissappears soon .

Don't worry, as long as you don't forget the completion post, we're good hahaha
I'm having lots of work this week, but I'm good, I hope you all are doing well too =)

I read this for class last semester and found that it would work for further information for my current class. It was an eye opening book. I was interested because it takes place near home. I hadn't known about some of the things that were taking place in my own area before i read this book.

I'm having lots of work this week, but I'm good, I hope you all are doing well too =)"
I've had an easy week at work this week. But the next two weeks will be my busy weeks; I am a bookkeeper and the next two weeks will be getting my bills paid and then closing out November for the accountant. Fun, fun. Ha!

Book: Hitting the Books by Jenn McKinlay
Pages: 277
How it Fits: 9th book in the Library Lovers series
Date Read: 12/3/2020
Review:
Each book in Jenn McKinlay’s Library Lover’s Mystery series is the definition of a cozy mystery. Hitting the Books, the ninth book, likewise, is the best of both worlds, a well-plotted mystery with small-town appeal.
When Lindsey Norris witnesses a hit-and-run accident through the Briar Creek Library window, she can’t help but be involved. The victim is her friend, Theresa Huston, the local tennis coach, who is engaged to Larry Milstein, one of the town’s business owners. Coincidentally – or not – Charlie, another friend of Lindsey’s, is also the victim of a hit and run on the same day. Is there a connection? A collection of library materials may prove to be a vital clue. One thing is clear – nothing is quite as it seems, giving Lindsey plenty to investigate.
I really enjoyed this book! The mystery takes so many unexpected twists and turns, that it is a delight to read! The pacing is quick and the suspense full throttle. The ending, while in many ways improbable, wrapped things up nicely.
Lindsey’s deepening relationship with Sully, too, is a high note of the story. Yet, it is handled in realistic manner so that it does not detract from the mystery. Having read the prior eight books, it is nice to see how they have evolved as a couple. The other familiar characters (The Lemon, Beth, the Crafternooners) play peripheral parts in the book, but nonetheless add a touch of charm. The new characters were layered and interesting, full of secrets that brought a nice perplexity to the mystery.
Hitting the Books is another strong entry in this entertaining series. As always, the narration by Allyson Ryan, is spot on.
