i read this book in 1987. it was a gripping story set in a metropolitan american city like chicago or new york. its about a detective who finds out that there was a spiritual war going on between God and the devil and the time had come when God was changing his overall angel over the world. the battle was that if the devil found who the angel/sentinel was he would replace the angel with his own dark angel and rule the world. the detective was somehow caught up in the story and he had identify and locate who the sentinel was before the devil did and allow a smooth transistion to take place. after alot of thrill and suspense the detective locates the sentinal or angel in a high building and its an old person. the apartment had no furnture just a chair in which this person sat . this person was starring out the window. the story ends with the detective witnesses a smooth exchange between the old and new angel.
l loved this book it was borrowed and i had it for a night so i read it till morning. i remember the cover was black with gold writing and a picture of a high story building. i need to get this book into my library.

I remember reading this book. Was it "The Sentinel" by Jeffrey Konvitz? Or the sequel, "The Guardian?" Searching google images shows different cover designs.
