Keri | 212 comments LOL I’m off work today and was doing the same thing trying to figure out my reading life.

Getting all my deadlines figured out, adding bookmarks to new challenges started in Nov., catching up on open ended individual ones I’ve slacked on, etc.

Oh yeah, and planning out books!
I agree on that days of the week list for Turf Wars :/
There are some on there I had on TBR but read other times I’ve had a task for day of the week in the title LOL

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Yeah, I came home and read a short book to knock out a few challenges but then more tasks will show up and have me scrambling again. I picked a couple books off that list but just blah.

COMPLETION POST

40. Read 6 books with over 500 reviews.

The Jackal (Black Dagger Brotherhood Prison Camp, #1; Black Dagger Legacy, #5) by J.R. Ward
The Jackal by J.R. Ward
Read: 11/4/20
Pages: GR Kindle - 416
How if fits: 570 reviews
Rating: 4 stars
I honestly don't know how to rate or review this one. Taken on it's own, it took a while for me to really get into it. I hit about the 40% point before I started to feel anything for the Jackal character at all. Even longer to feel a connection to Nyx. After that point, however, I liked it just as much as the majority of the original BDB series.

Speaking of the original series, I don't personally think this one should have been a new spin-off or tied to the Legacy spin-off. There is enough connection to the original series, through Darius and Rhage, that you'd miss a lot of the importance they bring into this story. There is also no way for the original series to continue without including the characters and events from this one. That's an issue I have with the Legacy series as well. Every book in the original series and all the spin-offs are so intertwined that you really should read them all in chronological order by release date in order to have consistency in each character's storyline. I am interested in seeing how the Jackal's continues, whether it is in the original series, the Legacy spin-off, or the Prison Camp spin-off...but I'll definitely be reading them in chronological order.

MountainKat | 31598 comments Here is Task 10:

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.

As a team, select a series listed on GR. Then each of you reads a book in the selected series. You can read the same or different books for this task.

Leslie I think we were looking at the Lux series for #9, but I forgot and ended up reading it for one of the Turf Wars week :(. I had a look through the lists that Keri provided and found The Summer I Turned Pretty which was also on my list. Any interest in trying this one?

Another one we might like is The Maddox Brother Series if you like Beautiful Disaster...first one is Beautiful Oblivion

Or the Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren ... Beautiful Bastard

message 357: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments Another option we had discussed was the Cursebreakers series too I think wasn’t it?

message 358: by Keri (last edited Nov 05, 2020 01:07AM) (new)

Keri | 212 comments I’m also fine with the summer I turned pretty. I put that one on my list ages ago because I liked the Lara Jean series by Jenny Han, and it seems pretty quick/short.

message 359: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I'm good with whatever y'all want to read. I've read some of the Beautiful Bastard series but I'm not done with it. I actually haven't read any of the other new ones listed so just point me in the right direction and I'll read it. :)

message 360: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 05, 2020 04:12AM) (new)

So, I'm honestly okay with whatever you all want but here's my feedback just in case it helps with the decision...

My vote would be Cursebreakers if everyone can get it. It's a popular one though, so there may be a wait list for library access. I think Leslie & Anna will love it as much as Keri & I. The first book is A Curse So Dark and Lonely. I'm almost certain it is available on Scribd.

I've read all of the Beautiful series, but I love Will and Max, so I would be good with reading one of their books again. :D

I have The Summer I Turned Pretty ready to go just in case we want that one. I don't know anything about it but that's never stopped me before.

I'm also good with the Maddox Brothers and downloaded the first one just in case we go with that. :)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I just got the first Cursebreakers book from the online library and have it ready and I have the Maddox and the Summer book also. I will have to hunt down a Beautiful book but I don't want to return Cursebreakers since I was lucky enough to get it. So, with that I'm good to go with all the choices. :)

message 362: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I will be able to get the Cursebreakers book so we can go for that one. It does look like it will be good. It just may take me a few days to get it read. When does this challenge finish?

The only reason I was looking at the Summer I turned pretty is it would be a quicker read and I could sneak it into my current list easier :)

message 363: by Keri (last edited Nov 05, 2020 03:09PM) (new)

Keri | 212 comments I own both books in the cursebreaker series so far so I’ll have book 2 ready to go but it will take me a couple more days to read since it’s longer but since it’s addicting and I’m already invested in the characters from book 1, hopefully not too long, especially with a weekend coming. :-)

I have the summer book also on audio from library and don’t know much about it but that’s it’s fairly short LOL.

message 364: by [deleted user] (new)

Should we go with Summer since it's shorter and the challenge ends on the 8th??

message 365: by Leslie (last edited Nov 05, 2020 04:41PM) (new)

Leslie It is a bit tight on time. If you guys want to go with cursebreaker, I will do my best.

Having said that, we only have 3 more days so either way this will be our last task, so I will go with whichever book you guys want.

message 366: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I’m not sure if we can squeeze two more tasks in with the deadline but I can sure try. I think the curse breakers book may be more interesting but I’m all for pushing through. I have both ready to go.

message 367: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I feel like I'm letting the team down, but with only 6 - 8, I think I need to go with the shorter book in order to get it done by the deadline so we can complete this task. Can we please go with the summer book? Thx!

message 368: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments Oh sad I didn’t realize it ended on the 8th!! 😔
I would agree then with the shorter summer book to make sure I finish in time, even though I’m super excited to read the cursebreakers book.

message 369: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Not a problem. I'll start that book today and I should have it finished tonight. I have no plans once I get home from work so hopefully I can knock it out. :) I'm also going to go ahead and knock out the first cursebreakers book this weekend. One because it's been on my tbr and now it's just staring me down and two it fits a few things.

You will not be disappointed in starting Cursebreakers. :D Everything I've read from Brigid Kemmerer has been A+

message 371: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I've requested Cursebreakers from the library too...Cyndee hasn't steered me wrong yet. I'm sure I can make it work from something. I'll just need a bit more time to read it.

Now that I’m not holding off in case we get that prompt, and we’ve been talking about it, and book 3 is coming up in J quart I probably will read book 2 soon...lol

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I really like this one. It should stay in the rotation for sure. I have November 9th ready to go on audiobook for the day and the ebook version to finish in the car ride tonight. I’ve been sitting over here patiently waiting for November 9th. I’m halfway through law of Moses also and it’s good.

I made a thread in our secret society (HA!) where we can chat about Nov 9 if you want!! I love this book so much.
