**For this challenge, use the GR Kindle first edition page count if available. Ebook page count will be acceptable if no Kindle page count available. The acceptability of other page counts will be made on an individual basis**

Please note that a rating is now required in your completion posts! A small review is also welcome. 😊

MountainKat | 31597 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 14, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

message 5: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited Sep 11, 2020 09:08PM) (new)

MountainKat | 31597 comments I will try to find a 4th MM reader to join your team. Hopefully, someone will volunteer. 🤞🏼 If not, I was adjust the tasks accordingly (as I did when teams lost members in the first round). 😊

ETA: Found one! Signed up as I was posting the team threads - great timing!

Laks | 1953 comments Hi all. I am Laks from India, so my time zone might be totally different from you. I discovered M/M few years back and since then got addicted to it. I love mystery, contemporary, paranormal, bdsm and historicals. I can try any book, there is no hard limit.
This is my first time playing this game, so old timers can guide me. Excited to play.

message 7: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments HI Laks, and everyone else! I'm Teresa and I'm from southern Alberta, Canada. I've been reading mm since 2011 and I read all genres but love paranormal/fantasy/Sci-Fi the best.
I'm a wife, and mother of two. I have 4 cats, love coffee, and love to crochet though I'm in a bit of a slump with that atm.

This is also my first time playing this game. I think we should come up with a name. I have a few ideas but want to get to know everyone more.

Laks | 1953 comments Few names suggestions-

Laks | 1953 comments Hi Emeli ,Madelyn and Teresa.
We can choose Reading Rainbows as our team name then. Has anyone played this game before? They can be team captain / leader here.

message 14: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31597 comments Yay, everyone is here! Being the team leader is less formal in this challenge. Mostly it is just keeping discussions going when a decision needs to be made and keeping track of where everyone is during a task. It's easy - anyone can do it!

message 15: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments Reading Rainbows it is!

I haven’t done this challenge before but I can help keep things flowing if no one else wants to.

Laks | 1953 comments Task 1 for all teams!

0. As a team select your favorite month of 2019 (because 2020 basically SUCKS!) and each player reads a book initially published in that month. No pass for this task.

For this task we are using the initial publication date. If one is listed at the top of the editions page, use that. Otherwise I will be looking for the first published date of an English language edition. Remember to use the first English language Kindle edition for your page count and ensure that your completion posts contain all the required information listed in message #3 of your team thread

Okay, Teresa. That had be great. MountainKat has already posted 1st task. Can we decide on a month in 2019 then?

message 18: by Laks (new)

Laks | 1953 comments Next task will be assigned by tuesday . We need to finish our books by then hopefully.

message 19: by Laks (new)

Laks | 1953 comments How about March 2019? I found a list and I do have books in my TBR from March.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Any other month is also okay.

message 20: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments March works for me. There's a book I want to read on there that's on KU :)

message 21: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments I'm up for a new book to read, so I'm going to start on a March book, but if Emeli and Madelyn want a different month, that's ok too.

I'm reading Prince of Death by Sam Burns. Sam Burns' books are always a 4 or 5 for me.

message 22: by Laks (last edited Sep 13, 2020 07:21PM) (new)

Laks | 1953 comments I am going to read In Safe Hands. Can also read books from other months if Emeli /Madelyn want another month.

message 23: by Laks (new)

Laks | 1953 comments Teresa... did you have a look at the tasks list? There are few tasks where a team decision is required beforehand like today's task. If we can all reach a consensus before itself, that'd be great i think.
I havent gone through the whole list myself yet. Shall check it out soon .

message 24: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments I saw that. I’ll go through the list closer tomorrow. It’s almost bed time for me right now :)

message 25: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31597 comments Laks wrote: "Next task will be assigned by tuesday . We need to finish our books by then hopefully."

Just wanted to clarify, the next task won't be assigned BEFORE Tuesday. Each team will be given their next task after they finish this one, just not before Tuesday. If you finish on Wednesday, you will get your next task within 24 of notifying me in the Q&A thread. You can go at your own pace. 😊 Though, I know there are teams that will finish that quickly every task and will get a new one every other day.

Laks | 1953 comments I have gone through the tasks list and posted above in two parts, those tasks that require a decision as a whole team. Its pretty exhaustive, so I have split it into two parts for easy reading.

When you are free, go through it and post suggestions, so when tasks are assigned, it will be easier for us.

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments 1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.
Sam Burns, Amy Lane,Jordan L. Hawk, Angel Martinez, Rhys Ford, Hailey Turner
9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I liked your suggestions Laks, though I've read all of Widdershins. I really need a series I already own a book or is available on KU as I have no book budget
12. Read a book recommended to you by a teammate - no pass for this task.
I think we should take our team list and everyone recommends for the person below them:
Madelyn
Teresa
Emeli
Laks

27. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.
hmm, I don't think the year really matters. I don't have a preference
29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.
easiest here would be law enforcement
33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.
I'm all for paranormal or sci-fi or fantasy
50. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.
52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
53. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town (born in, raised in, currently live in - all work), teams decide. No pass for this task.
I believe this can just be the country if outside US unless you live in a big city, which I do not. So for me this would be Canada
54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.
I'd pick beach Though not all of these are set on a beach, there are quite a few Gay Beach Reads
55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.
I'd pick England/Great Britain as there is a lot of choice there
56. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
We could pick one of the bingo lists
58. Read 6 books published in the year one of the teammates joined RRRC, teams decide which teammate.
I joined in 2011

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments I've only read one of the straight boy series - gave it 3.5 stars, but willing to try more. And I read the first three red dirt hearts but if it's on KU I'm willing to read another. I've read all the books in the other series but they are good series so I wouldn't mind re-reading.

Another series I want to try is Jocelynn Drake's Lord of Discord. Book 1 is Claiming Marcus

I hope the others show up soon so we can make some headway :D

If mmromance counts as a subgenre then we totally should choose that.

Laks | 1953 comments Completion post - Task 1.
Book from fav month of 2019 - March
In Safe Hands by Victoria Sue
Published in March 2019
230 pages / kindle/GR
Finished reading - 15.9.2020

Review : 3 stars

Deacon is a disgraced music star , who needs protection from a murderous stalker. Mav is a damaged ex military guy, wallowing in depression and booze, currently tasked with bodyguard duty of Deacon.

The murder mystery was interesting with a psycho on the loose. The instalove between MCs didn't do much for me, felt it was too circumstantial rather than an open choice.

Prince of Death by Sam Burns

Finished reading - 2020/09/16

Review : 4 stars
I loved the twining of myth and reality - although the reality in this book is that magic exists so there’s that. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and I see much potential for the rest of the series. I kept expecting a big betrayal for some reason but I was glad how it all worked out. Enjoyable read!!
