Kiss of Steel (London Steampunk, #1) by Bec McMaster
Pages: 448 kindle edition
Read: Oct 8
Qualifies: Set in London, see setting on main book page- London is Megan's hometown
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I wanted to read this series based on Alicia's review of a book higher in this series. I quite enjoyed the elements of paranormal, fantasy, historical romance and steampunk. I think the author did a fantastic job meshing all these genres together. Great attraction and tension between the two main characters. Looking forward to continuing this series.

Qualifies: Set in London (my hometown) tagged donna-alam-love-in-london by 1 user (not me)
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This was pretty good. Better than I expected it to be.
I liked Beckett hes a complicated character and I don't think hes developed enough really.
Olivia I wasn't sure about. She was a little too bitchy and just seemed a bit unaware of everything. Felt a little odd.

The Princess Plan (A Royal Wedding #1) by Julia London The Princess Plan
Read: 10/9
Pages: 400
Rating: 2 Stars
Qualifies: from precis: "Nothing gets the tongues of London’s high society wagging like a good scandal."
Review: Well, that was a short-lived reprieve. I hit on another one that didn't work for me. Other people may enjoy heroines who are rude, obnoxious, flighty, etc. but that's not my preference. I tried really hard to like Eliza, but when a prince from a foreign country is standing in your living room asking for your father, and you can't be bothered to help him, instead you send him away with a flea in his ear...well, suffice to say it was a struggle for me from that point on. I did finish it, and there were some good moments. I really did like Sebastian, the prince. And that's about all I can say about this one. ☹️

Thank you. I appreciate your good wishes and thoughts. I'm sad to say that he passed away today. It's been a hard day, as you can imagine. I'm not sure what tomorrow will be like, but I expect that I'll be spending most of the day with his wife and helping her take care of things. I'll try to post as soon as I can.

Sub genre- contemporary romance
One Hundred Excuses (An Aspen Cove Romance Book 5) by Kelly Collins
Read: Oct 12
Rating: 3 stars
Pages: 211 kindle edition
Qualifies: sub genre - contemporary romance
Review: This is my second book from this series and both books were read out of order but that didn't take away from the sweetness of this story. Marina and her daughter both get a second chance at happiness with the sheriff of Aspen Cove. Kellyn is a sweetie and definitely added to this story. I liked how Marina finally stood up for herself and was empowered.

message 380: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2513 comments Megan, the sub genre is the genre after the little arrow on the main book page with all the main page genres. Currently, our two finished books don't qualify but if we switch our sub genre to contemporary romance both our books fit plus your next one that you have picked out. We would both just have to edit our completion posts to fix why they qualify. Does that work for you? ( since we are using a pass for Alicia I didn't think she would mind)
I'm on the hunt for another book to start!

Glad you liked this. Her other books in this series are pretty similar - I've liked them so far and I'm up to book 8, they're just easy to read.

message 383: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2513 comments Ok, great, I edited my post so the qualification is correct. So far I like The Aspen Cove series. I would like to go back and read book 1.
I started the last book in the Buchanan series I was reading that fits the contemporary romance sub genre task.

Megan | 1024 comments The Wild One
Read: 12th October
Pages: 251
Rating: 3 stars
Qualifies: MPG sub genre Contemporary Romance
Review: So although I thought this was OK I wasn't bowled over by this.
I think its the way they meet. Her friend trying to get her into a threesome which wasn't sordid it sounds worse than it is but it just didn't start it off the right way.
Her friend is pretty good, encouraging and I liked that about her. I thought Wren herself was quite strong and I liked her ethics for her family. The end few chapters were also a little strange not bad but strange.

Megan | 1024 comments A Ruthless Proposition
Read: 12th October

Qualifies: MPG Contemporary Romance
Rating: 3 stars
Review:This was very emotional!!
I didn't like Dante at first. He is rude and to be honest it just didn't make me like him at all but he did grow on me.
Her brother is also a bit of a jerk. For god sake she needed him and he was all butt hurt she slept with his mate. Very weird.
This romance was pretty good in the end.

Sub genre- contemporary romance

Tempting (Buchanans, #4) by Susan Mallery
pages: 384 kindle edition
rating: 3 stars
read: Oct 12
qualifies: sub genre- contemporary romance
review: I thought this book was a nice ending to this 4 book series. Dani finds out in previous books that her father is actually a senator running for president. She does meet him and it doesn't go quite how she expected. She falls for the senator's adopted son and there are a few bumps along the way that all get sorted out by the end of the book. I 'm glad Dani finally realized that family doesn't have to be your blood relations! Cute book with a HEA.

AliciaJ | 1868 comments I wanna thank you both for taking on this task. I haven’t been able to sit and read at all for the past few days, so I really appreciate you guys taking this one. But I’ll be back online again starting tomorrow, so I’ll be ready for our next task. 😊

message 391: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31597 comments Here is Task 15:

94. Read 6 5 books published in sequential years, teams decide years.

The books you select for this task need to be initially published in sequential years - 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 for example. You can select any years, but they must be sequential with no years skipped. For this task, use the initial publication date, If there is one listed on the editions page use that, otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition.

Glad things are getting back to normal Alicia, so sorry for the loss. Way to work together as a team. 😊

Megan | 1024 comments Looks like I'd picked 2019 so I guess we need 2020, 2018, 2017 and 2016?

"94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years

2014-2020

The book I've picked up is One Hundred Ways 2019

2016- Laura

message 395: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1024 comments Always happy to help like that! Real life stuff happens! Glad you can start getting back to normal.

Speaking of that, my grandads funeral is tomorrow. I'll probably be able to check GR during the day at moments but I doubt I'll get anything read. I'll try and get my book done before tonight & I'm ok to pick up another one once Alicia has picked a year but I doubt I'll get any others done before tomorrow.

Every Step She Takes by Kelley Armstrong
Pages: 346
Read: Oct 13
Qualifies: published June 30, 2020
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Another well crafted mystery/suspense from Armstrong. She weaves a suspenseful first chapter that hooks me in and doesn't stop. A few surprises which I didn't see make for a pleasurable read by one of my favorite authors. My only disappointment is that I finished the book.

message 398: by AliciaJ (new)

One Hundred Ways
Read: 13th October
Pages: 264
Rating: 4 stars
Qualifies: published 15th April 2019
Review: This was a nice book in a good series.
Meg ruined it for me. She was such a stereotype mean girl and that got a little stale quickly. That aside I did like Riley and Luke. They were very well matched personality wise.
