Review: Wow, I loved this book. So many great scenes, so many heart warming quotes. I like how this duo added humor, love and honesty while also addresing the anxiety disorder, agoraphobia.

294 pages +

Charming Like Us (Like Us, #7) by Krista Ritchie Charming Like Us
Read: 10/3
Pages: 503
Rating: 2 Stars
Qualifies: Written by co-authors Krista and Becca Ritchie
Review: Sigh. This is the last book I'll be reading in this series, thankfully. This was almost painful. The two MCs had zero chemistry, it felt like they were forced together just for the convenience of the authors, it didn't feel authentic at all. The one thing I did like about it was the glimpses of Charlie, one of the coolest characters in the series. But since there is no guarantee that there will be a book written for Charlie, I'm not going to bother with any of the upcoming books.

Wick Wick (The Kings of Retribution MC, Louisiana Chapter, #2) by Sandy Alvarez
Read: 4th Oct

Review: Pretty good. It did feel a little quick but I liked that Vayda was a solider and so she just felt a little stronger and wasn't really a damsel in distress...

message 308: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31597 comments The rumor I've heard about notifications is that GR has shut it down because a porn site was spamming members. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hopefully it is resolved soon. 🤞🏼

Read: 5th October
Pages: 354
Rating: 1 star
Qualifies: Rating is 5,772
Review: I just do not get this book. Its so damn negative, its not even like there seems to be chemistry between them its forced and so intense because of her hatred.
Also I'm all for a strong female MC I love that but there can be a strong female MC that isn't a man hater. Its ridiculous that she is considered a strong female MC but shes so nasty. I just don't think its necessary to have a character like her.

Four Weeks Till Forever Four Weeks Till Forever (The Pryce Family, #1) by Nadia Lee
Read: 5th October
Pages: 302
Rating: 4 stars
Qualifies: 4,364 ratings
Review: This was more 3.5 stars but as we can't do half stars I'll put it as 4 as its more 4 than 3. I will say I've read a few of Nadia Lee's books recently and if this had been the first book I'd read I don't think I'd have continued. She seems to have her books in the same world but not the same series so they all link but not that you can tell aside from this series obviously. Its fine like that but in some cases you don't know if you're skipping or jumping books and I guess could be potential spoilers...
That all said, this book was interesting. I was curious with the family drama. Although hers was worse he wasn't spared from drama with a womaniser dad and a bitch of a mother. Like others I don't think her behaviour is excused because of her husband cheating on her, she came from the same background - no money - but because she had her heartbroken by her husband shes bitter and twisted. I think that was a real shame, and not very just to her.

It wasn't what I wanted but it was better than the first book.
This 3rd book isn't looking fantastic either grr. Its not awful but for example the MC's sister is going to try IVF for a baby and they need donor sperm and they're going to ask the MC's boss, not someone shes friendly with either... How in any scenario is that likely?

Edit: binning this book off and looking for something else. Not happening. Its stupid

message 322: by Laura (last edited Oct 05, 2020 10:41AM) (new)

Laura | 2513 comments It really annoys me when the story line is so silly it just doesn't seem plausible. I 've rejected a few because of this or the first page just doesn't grab my attention. Hook me or I 'm gone! I actually reject more books because my attention isn't hooked immediately.

Good luck finding something more enjoyable!

If I Should Die (Lucy Kincaid #3) by Allison Brennan
read: Oct 5
pages: 514 kindle edition
rating: 4 stars
qualifies: 4,280 ratings at time of completion
review: I 'm enjoying this series and this book was another fast paced mystery despite having everything figured out before the end. I like the growing relationship between Lucy and Sean and how they seem to balance each other. I like how this one builds up and the last 40% of the book was a roller coaster ride of action and emotions. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

Enamored Enamored (Accidental Billionaires #3) by J.S. Scott

Review: This was interesting.
I liked Riley, she seemed sweet and down to earth even though she was a wealthy woman and a harvard lawyer. Seth was also pretty cool but he had to grow on me more. He seemed less down to earth than Riley did which was a little odd but fine. Looking forward to the next book.

When Strangers Marry (Vallerands, #1) by Lisa Kleypas When Strangers Marry
Read: 10/5
Pages: 400
Rating: 5 Stars
Qualifies: Rating details · 8,063 ratings
Review: Ok, so I actually read the first edition paperback of this story, written back in 1992, the original version of the story that is sooo much better than the watered down pap that is the revised edition. In the original, Max is very stern and austere when he and Lysette first meet, and Lysette is very innocent, but also stubborn. It is obvious from their very first meeting that they have an intense connection that is what keeps me fascinated with this story even all these years later. The historical aspects of the time period just added to the richness of the story, along with all of the Creole customs and relationships. I adore this story and am so glad that I kept the original book so I can revisit these characters again and again.

Review:I don't think this is bad buuut I'm not entirely sure I think this is good either. I've given this 4 stars because I didn't hate reading it. The sex scenes are interesting and quite well put together but the actual romance is just him and her thinking to themselves they could fall for the other its a little annoying.

I doubt I'll read on to be honest.

Thanks Alicia and Megan. I failed the gluocoma test about a month ago. My eye dr gave me drops and a prescription ointment to put in my eyes to help clear up the cloudiness and I was worrying slightly as I didn't notice this change. Everything worked and the follow up was good along with the dilation test. Now I will wait a couple of hours for my eyes to return to normal and finish my book this evening

Lies & Lullabies (Hush Note, #1) by Sarina Bowen Lies & Lullabies
Read: 10/7
Pages: 278
Rating: 4 Stars
Qualifies: Author: Sarina Bowen
Review: This was a real nice surprise. I wasn't really expecting a whole lot considering that my luck hasn't been that great with the past several books I've read, with a few exceptions. But Sarina Bowen managed to pull me right out of my reading funk and make me smile again. The story is pretty simple, a rock star falls for a local girl, has sex and doesn't see her again for 5 years. Then she knocks him for a loop with her news that she's kept hidden for the past few years. I'm sure you can guess the surprise. Anyway, what's different here is the resulting behavior of each character. Kira admits she was wrong, Jonas acknowledges his anger and upset, but also admits to his part as well. Miraculously, *both* of them take responsibility and then work on their relationship from there. It was awesome, and turned the whole story from a boring old trope that I usually avoid to a story with characters who actually talk to each other, admit mistakes, and work on communicating better. I loved it.

Shadows in Death (In Death, #51) by J.D. Robb
pages: 345 kindle edition
read: Oct 7
rating: 3 star
qualifies: author J.D Robb /Nora Roberts (approved by MKat in Q &A post 355)
review: I have been reading this series since I was a teenager so it's definitely a comfort read. Eve and Roarke have grown as characters as has their relationship since book 1. There is a huge list of complimentary secondary characters who I enjoy reading aboout. As much as I love this whole cast of characters it's the police procedural that hooks me in. Robb gave this book an extra special oomph as she took the setting outside of NY at the very end. Unfortunately, the ending left me with mixed feelings and perhaps a bit of disappointment which I definitely would have given a lower rating but because it's comfort read - 3 stars.

I really liked it. I almost switched books when the whole “surprise” happened, but then the author switched it up and turned something old and annoying into a wonderful romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I checked and lending is enabled on kindle, so let me know if you want to borrow it 😁

53. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town (born in, raised in, currently live in - all work), teams decide. No pass for this task.

As a team, select one teammate and read a book set in their home town. Home town can be defined as you wish - where you were born, where you grew up, where you spent most of your life or where you currently live. If it is a big city like London or New York, it is easy enough, but you are free to use the state if in the US or country outside of the US. Please include the selected teammate and town/state/country in your completion post.
