No problems - just a question. 😊 I've been enjoying this series as well, but I struggled to connect with the last one I read - they were crying ALL. THE. TIME! Please tell me, does that seem to be a pattern that continues?

5. Read 4 books first published within the last year.
The books selected for this task have to be initially published on or after October 17, 2019. Include the initial publication date in your completion posts.

Honestly not something I noticed really. At least it doesn't stand out as something I thought about the series. I do feel like it starts to get a bit repetitive with basically everyone in the series being hunted, attacked, abused, etc. But that's the type of series it is when you're dealing with a mercenary assassin group so I accept that about it and move on. Individually I like the stories and as a whole I like the characters and the way they interact.

I'm going to go with Sweet Temptation - pub. March 8, 2020

Review: Some much twisted secrets in this story that if it weren't for sleep and family I would have finished it in one sitting. Cassio is tough, rough and not big on trusting for so many reasons but when it comes to his children he has a great heart, more than people know. When his wife dies he was offered Guilia in an arranged marriage but he wasn't sure if he wanted to consider her as a wife since she was young and he had children to consider as well. Definitely a lot to think about when your in your thirties and she's just going to be eighteen.
When they meet, it definitely.wasn't love at first sight, lol. Cassio makes you want to hate him but with young but not so naive, Guilia, things are quite fun and entertaining and also steamy. I so loved this book even with the age difference. I think Guilia is older and wiser than some of the characters in the book.

I wasn't going to read this one yet as I hate waiting a year in between books as they're being written, but as it's the BOM in one of my groups I had to dive in. I'm so glad I did. I do really love the Shadowhunters world. I enjoyed the Infernal Devices a lot and while it took a minute to figure out whose kids belong to whom I like that this story directly continues from that one. I like seeing Will and Tessa again, and seeing how their lives have developed. Of course now it's their kids causing havoc everywhere.
James and Lacie have gown up and trained as Shadowhunters, but in the past few years there have been very few demon sightings within London. The Shadowhunters have a whole have started to become lax. But suddenly there's a fresh attack, and in daylight no less, one which leaves behind many bitten and clawed Shadowhunters who are dying from some unknown poison.
I really enjoyed seeing how the kids, James and all the band of his Merry Thieves along with Lacie and Cordelia were determined to figure out what was going on. As per usual my least favorite part of the story was the stupid love triangle. I hated Grave from minute one. I still hated her by the end of things. But Alistair is still growing on me. I liked how underneath all the childhood stupid he really wasn't a bad guy. I keep hoping for some Thomas action there. ;)
The Shadowhunters have always been concerned with the fact that Tessa's father was a demon. I enjoyed how the powers they inherited from their grandfather were developing in James and Lacie. Everything built maybe a little slowly, but I still was really pleased as I read. I'm just bummed I have so long until I can read the next installment.

Thanks - that's good to hear!

Review: This didn't really go well for me.

Meh. This was an M/M Dark Erotic retelling of Rapunzel. The writing was good & the sex was hot. The action was action, but I just didn't feel it. I just really didn't feel the romance, like at all. Truly I think it had a lot to do with it being a male author. I don't seem to connect with them as well. This really should have been right up my alley. But it wasn't really. I even found myself skimming it in places, Which is never, ever, ever a good thing.

Review: Meh, I just did not really find myself caring much for this one, which doesn't happen often with cozies. Generally I'm able to lap them up as sugar, being easy and fun to read. This just seemed to drag on.

As a team select a month and year, then each of you reads a book initially published in that month/year. For this task, use the initial publication date - if there is one on the editions page of your selected books use it, otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition.

Review: All the characters were so much fun. The crazy moments with families, best friends and a pregnant woman too. But wow when the basically manwhore starts to actually fall in love isn't exactly what you think is going to happen but when Birdie and Andrew meet it definitely isn't love. More like a want to punch the cocky look off his face. There is some funny moments with these two but also sweet ones too. Enjoyable all around.

Review: OK so this was a very original story. I've never read anything else like it. However, I had a hard time understanding it too. The vernacular and terminology used was very confusing to me. Some parts

And then it would get good. & I'd be all like, OK. I can do this...

Then I'm all like...

Then I'm like, I might want to read future books if they were around this length, especially since they seem to be about different lands and different couples for each book. But the next book is 500+ pages. There is no way I could handle this for that length of the story. At least, I don't think so anyway.

Review: This was ok probably a 3.5, it seemed to drag on a bit more than some cozies. Had all the elements typically found though. The owners spice shop played very little into the story. I've read book 1, if i recall the shop played a bigger role and i enjoyed book 1 more....

Oh that's what has you busy. LOL I did catch that they won. I was happy for them. 😊

This is a case where the twists were twisty, but also pretty easily figured out and yet I was sucked along in the story and still loved it all. Nick is a quintessential T.J. Klune character in all his absurd non-stop chatter. I enjoyed his cluelessness and his adorable no filter brain. He's quirky and yet I totally get him because my brain functions like that and I just get it. I loved Seth and his quite worship from afar. Add in Jazz, Gibby, Nick's dad, and Seth's aunt and uncle...yes please. We don't count Owen. Stupid Owen. Ok maybe I feel a little bad for Owen, but still stupid Owen.
I enjoyed reading this book and Klune's take on the superhero genre. I know I'll be reading the next installment as soon as I can get my hands on it. Yeah, yeah I know it still needs to be written, but what can I say.

Shelby, you are killing me with your push to read T.J. Klune's new books!! And to top it off, I've been thinking of revisiting Verania... (They are sooooo goooood, but sooooo long!)
