I read this over 15 years ago, so about 99-02. I cant remember if it was new or old.

What is the story's time period and location (country, region, well-known city, small town)? Where is the girl from?
In the US, I can't remember if there was a specific city. it seemed like a small town. She was probably 12-15 years old
Did it seem like it was set in modern times?Was pottery a big theme?
It was set in modern times... It was assumed that the glaze recipe died with the man that invented the color, and it was highly sought after. I think it was written on a pot/vase... I think they described the blue as the perfect blue.
I can't remember if she was sneaking in the mansion or if they were staying there but I remember she was sneaking around and listened in on 2 people that I think broke in to find the recipe
