I apologize if the topic is too vague, but it's a short story and there's not much plot there.
I read it sometime in the 1990s in a short story anthology, it might have been by someone like Pohl or Silverberg (or possibly someone totally unrelated).
The gist of it is, the protagonist lives in a remote frozen settlement, there are no facilities, he has to survive by hunting and heat the house by chopping wood for the wood-fired stove, he's married to the ugliest woman in for a hundred miles in any direction, who also hates his guts. In the story, the danger catches up with him, and he's mauled (possibly has his leg bitten off) by a wild animal (possibly a wolf). Bleeding, he drags himself to a simulation tank he has in the house...
