There's a group of boys being held as slaves and used to make some kind of artistic thing. I vaguely remember they pin coloured sequins onto designs. A new boy arrives. I can't remember if he was kidnapped or if he went willingly to what he thought would be a paying job in order to help his family. Anyways, he's introduced to everybody. They're kept in a loft and the only way down is a ladder that the guy who is in charge of them controls. One of the other slaves doesn't like him, so there's some conflict there. They each have a quota they have to fulfill each day. He figures out a way to do it faster, the guy who doesn't like him (and is in charge) takes the credit for the extras. Then another boy tells him it'd be better to not do that, because then the quota will be upped for everyone. So he stops and the other guy gets in trouble for not being able to make that many. I think there was also something about being given the privilege to leave the loft and make tea for the master.
