Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah Grim's parents ever gave her. After carving her path all on her own, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself.

I've never tried her books as audios before, I always feel like I need to read her actual words, if that makes sense hahaha

It hits me harder on audio because of the narrator's voice, but the physical words allow me to find new favourite quotes <3

(view spoiler)[ I hope Beyah can find confidence and trust in these people, she deserves to have a family. Samsom is so mysterious, I'm curious to know what issues he has with his family (maybe it's only his da?). It was so sweet that he set an alarm on her phone so she could watch the sunrise, it must be a pretty view watching it over the ocean. Also, I'm afraid Beau is going to be a problem, but let's hope he doesn't have a huge part in the story. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 20

(view spoiler)[ I'm enjoying Beyah and Samson's relationship so far, but I can't help but think he did something terrible. I don't think I would be able to be with a guy who said he wouldn't tell me yet his darkest secrets because that would keep me away from him, this would be too scary hahaha It would also be a bad sign when we've just found someone's skeleton and he doesn't want me to call the authorities. Other than that, I like them both so far, but Samson's mysteries is definetely what's keeping my interest into reading it fast. And I can't believe she hasn't told anyone but Samson that her mother has died. This lie isn't going to end well. (hide spoiler)]

I think Colleen tackles an important issue in this book (kids needing to do anything in order to survive, and also the justice system), and I think she did it well. Beyah and Samson's relationship is probably one of my favorites she has ever created, because they fit each other really well, also were supportive of each other and it wasn't a toxic relationship. Both characters, but specially Beyah, gew up and learned a lot, which I really appreciate. I just wanted it to have more about her relationship with her father throughout the book, it felt like she left everything to the end, and it could've been better developed along the book. I can only imagine how many people there are in similar situations, and how easy it is for people to fall through the cracks. The relationship with her father did seem a little rushed, but I appreciate it was more about her and Samson. (hide spoiler)]
