Andrew Shanahan (andrewshanahan) | 9 comments Hi there,

I was wondering if you could help me? One of my readers said that they joined Goodreads specifically to vote for my book Before and After Before and After as I sometimes ask readers who say nice things about the book to vote for it. However, she said that when she went to the link I gave it had disappeared. On searching I can see that she's right. Do you know why the book was removed? Any help would be great!

Many thanks,

Andrew

Sandra | 31515 comments It's impossible to tell without a link to the list.

The only reason for it to be removed is if it shouldn't be on that particular list.

As Sandra said we have no way to know if it was removed from a list unless it did not fit the list parameters. If that was the case, we could clarify why it may have been removed.

Andrew Shanahan (andrewshanahan) | 9 comments Wow! Thanks for the speedy replies. It was on the list the Best of 2020. It was actually top of that list for a number of weeks. Some of my readers have added it again and I was going to email out to readers again to ask them to vote (again! Hope they're patient with me!) but I didn't want to if I'm doing it wrong somehow (e.g. if indie authors aren't allowed on that list, the cover is deemed offensive, etc)

lethe | 16368 comments I really don't think authors should ask their readers to vote for their book on Listopias. It should be left entirely to the readers IMO.

message 6: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31515 comments Well, I can't see a reason for it to be removed.

I did correct the Original Publication Date, but that wouldn't have anything to do with it, just went from 10th to 8th of January, 2020.

Fair comment. I definitely don't think it should be spammed but I (personally) don't think there's any harm in letting readers know that the lists exist and it would be nice to be featured on it.

GR certainly gives you a number of pushes to promote the list and ask people to vote for you - as per the sidebar ("Get your friends to vote").

Yes, but that is aimed at readers. Since authors aren't allowed to add/vote for their own books, I don't think they should ask others to do so.

That said, since Best Books of 2020 is entirely subjective, I see no reason to remove a book from it unless it was not published in 2020.

Thanks Sandra. It's a mystery then. I was scratching my head and thought it might be because the cover is a biscuit (possible food triggers - I DUNNO!) but thought that was a bit absurd!

Thanks for correcting the date. I think it was actually published on the 10th, but I guess it doesn't really matter much?

I sent an email to GR about it but I guess they've got a lot on. Is there anyone you'd suggest I could flag it to?

No, we only have the general contact address.

Fair enough. I guess I just have to take it on the chin. I don't mind so much but I just hate mysteries!
